I'm sick of the sight of an egg now! And since being a little ill i've gone off the thought of meat. Which makes breakfast quite difficult. I'm not a serious low carber - but for breakfast, I like to keep them to a minimum. This morning I had a few black or blue berries and a sugar free jelly - but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of somthing not eggy, and not meaty for first thing in the morning - I just can't stomach them in the morning. I don't like the taste of that greek yoghurt stuff, is there some flavoured yoghurt lower in carbs (and easily found in uk supermarkets)?

You could try half a grapefruit at around 4g to 6g of carbs its pretty low and was my breakfast of choice when I was starting out to control my bg and lose weight.

NOTE:Grapefruit should not be eaten if you are taking a statin

Hi Letty
there is a recipe that Whitby Jet posted in the discussion board for Granola, it is on a thread called Lizzies Granola. It is very tasty, low carb and does not spike me at all, I'm Type 1 . I sometimes have bacon and grilled Tomatoes ,I know Toms are not a low carb fruit but I'm not major low low carb.
I have my fruit at the moment with thick double cream instead of yoghurt and warm the fruit up,which is lovely.
You could add the home made Granola to it

I love grapefruit but cut it out years ago because everywhere I looked said it had between 10g an 15g per half. But then I guess thats not bad, but I may be hungry by like 9am hehe.. may give it a go though as I did used to love my grapfruit!

I will have a look at Lizzies Granola. And Fallenstar, i've never even imagined warming fruit up - think i'll have to try that - not too keen on cream though. Hmm ill have to think of somthing else to go with it

Thanks

Grapefruit can be sweet but I'd also caution (as above) that if you are on a statin you may be advised to stay away from grapefruit and its juice...

If I don't feel like a cooked breakfast first thing in the morning, I might just eat an handful of raw almonds or some other nut. Perhaps an avocado with some heavy cream and/or a few wild berries might do the trick? How about fish for breakfast?

fish for breakfast? noo lol

I think nuts and berries may be the way for me, we will see...

and i'm really rubbish and naive with medical things... is insulin a statin?

I buy the frozen berries and defrost them in the microwave, got way layed one AM and they came out all warm, blueberries and strawberry slices. I put some Greek yoghurt on and shoved a load of Omega sprinkle on for some crunch, which is a seed and linseed mix from H&B...It was delicious..much nicer than my old toast and I used to have that with fruit EVERY morning, and feel lousy an hour after and get a spike too...so it will do for me every morning. I love the cream though but if you don't like it get some different yoghurts. I know they have higher carbs but I'm sure they still will not spike you and if it is weight gain you are worried about . Eat like a king in the morning and a pauper by night It usually works for weight loss..So long as you don't eat all the time in-between
Good luck Hun

I also tend to have a small avocado for breakfast.
I don't have a variety of breakfast plans yet, just something on the safe side first, fancy things later, when I able to figure out .
I am currently rather-low-carbing: around 20g carb for breakfast: around 8g from oatmeal (1/8 cup - sometimes I can't believe I am doing this, measure measure and measure all the time), the rest is from almond milk, nuts, cheese, sometimes veggies. I have eggs twice or three times per week. I prefer to eat more eggs but I have high blood pressure so I have to control the cholesterol thing.

Eggs won't affect your cholesterol, eat as many as you like ! I too had high blood pressure but now very well controlled since low carbing

Hiya!

At the moment I'm heavily into the low-carb granola that Fallenstar mentioned. I slice strawberries over it (heat the strawberry slices for 10secs in the microwave) and unsweetened soya milk (ordinary milk spikes me badly). Also have avocado, sliced ham, walnuts and pumpkin seeds sometimes. Although this is going to sound weird for breakfast, I sometimes save some cooked veg from the night before (broccolli, cabbage, green beans, celeriac etc), mash it up, shape into little patties and fry on both sides until heated through and golden brown. I eat it with bacon, but you could miss out the bacon. Obviously, the veg does have carb in, so try to choose low carb ones.

Smidge.

If the full-fat Greek yoghurt is too sharp for you, you can always mix in a little granulated Splenda to sweeten it, then add berries of your choice and/or maybe a few nuts and seeds.

I can take Lizi's Granola, but only about 30g to keep my BGs in the right place.

I'm afraid I like eggs so I have a 2-egg omelette every morning, sometimes with cheese or with mushrooms, for variety.

You know what,

I really fancied a runny boiled egg this morning !

But we didn't have any eggs in...

I've stuck to the berries and almonds the past few days.... which i like and will find easier when i'm back at work and working horrible shifts and don't know when ill have time to eat.. can just carry a bag of berries and nuts with me

Also going to try some of the others things you've guys have mentioned when i get round to it

I make a porridge using ground almonds, coconut powder, seeds, oat bran & soya milk. Keeps me going all morning - even when I play tennis.

IanD!
I'm liking the sound of that there porridge I will give that a go but with half milk half cream, Thanks for that
