no more injections :O)

After injecting since i was seven years old, at the age of 38 i went for a blood test, the end result was i was taken off insulin injections & started on tablets called glibenclamide. I take a tablet (2.5g) after eating & my diabetes has never been better.
A professor from Exeter hospital ( who found this type cure) & my hospital doctor Dr ***** (good hope, sutton coldfield) monitored me closely at first but after a couple of months i went back to 6 monthly hospital visits. Life is soooo much easier & better now & i was named in a medical journal as i was the first patient to try this.
The blood test result will not work for everyone but very much worth a try. I just dont know how to respond when asked if i'm type 1 or 2 lol the doctor says i am both.

Great news, Tracey! It's good to hear of such real progress. Is the Exeter Prof. Dr Mark Daly - he's done work funded by DUK.

That is wonderfufl news for you Tracey :thumbup: I have never heard of this before. it sounds so promising and exciting :) Can I ask how you came about to have this blood test? I'm really interested. Thanks

Perhaps you have a form of MODY. If so, this is neither T1 nor T2. This can sometimes be treated with sulphonylureas like glibenclamide and there are people like yourself who were misdiagnosed (because a child is assumed to have T1 ) have been using insulin for many years but have been able to stop using it.

I came about this from my daughters diabetic Dr @ Birmingham children's hospital, I went there to have the blood test. He then sent on results to my diabetes Dr & it went from there.
