No Pancreas Left

Hi DCUK community

I suffered from necrosis pancreatitis in June 2013. I have been a member but never posted so please forgive any of my ignorance.

I have no pancreas left which obviously left me with Type 1 insulin dependant. I'm still relatively new at getting my head around diabetes, it's not easy is it?!

I know there is a subject for newly diagnosed but couldn't find any thread about the illness I suffered and the resultant diabetes. Could someone help me on how you have coped if you have had necrosis pancreatitis. My last HbA1c was 5% and my last 3 months blood sugar reading are coming in at an average 7. The highest reading I've ever had is 16!

Thanks for reading :)

Hi there and welcome, I'm sorry I cannot be of much help as I haven't had to go through necrosis pancreatitis but I am sure someone here will have had the same if not a similar experience. Getting used to type 1 diabetes is hard (newly diagnosed myself) but as the days and weeks go by it does tend to get easier as it becomes part of your daily routine - it wont feel like that now but It will.

Somebody should be along soon with some great advice but for now take care and best of luck :)

Thanks Kerry for your welcome and advice. I was told that only a small percentage of people will suffer from necrosis pancreatitis so it's pot luck as to whether I'll get further responses but thanks anyway.

There's bound to be someone on here suffering with the same thing, I will be amazed if no one else has it

I'm afraid I can't help with the pancreatic necrosis but your blood sugar readings are currently very good. Anything below 6% for HBa1C is excellent for a diabetic and the average reading of 7 is also good. Most of us spike into the teens from time to time so that is also OK if only occasional. It sounds like your pancreas is still producing some insulin?

Just wanted to say you are not alone, I had my pancreas totally removed just over a year ago.
Sounds like you are doing well, do you have any pancreas left? Even a small amount will help to a small degree.
Living totally without a pancreas is challenging but can be done!
Best Wishes
