Hi I’m newly diagnosed type 2 . My levels were 56 and I was prescribed 3x500mg metformin per day . Today is the first day I took all 3 as I had to gradually increase them . I read a lot about side effects but I’ve had non . Should I be concerned ? My diet hasn’t changed much it’s something I’m working on as I know I need to lose weight . Has anyone had metformin without no side effects ?

Plenty of people don't get side effects, it's just that the ones who do tend to complain about it. I wouldn't be worried at all, just happy,

I was taking 2x500mg Metformin tablets a day with no side effects at all.

I literally only had an explosive start on the first evening with 1 tablet, but increased up to 4/day with no problems at all, so I think we are in the lucky category - got to take the little wins where we can

@Fifi2022: Errm I think you should be relieved rather than worried if you're not having any "metfartin" 
issues!
I took metformin (mainly slow release) for the first three years after diagnosis, and I only ever had two minor explosive toilet issues early on after eating a couple of meals containing a few too many carbs. However I did have a non toilet type disagreement with a different brand that I was temporarily prescribed due to my normal one being unavailable at the time. My pharmacist made a note not to give me that particular brand again - problem solved.

The Blood Sugar 101 website which has changed/expanded a lot since then, but offers this explanation regarding metformin, carbs, and possible side effects, which seems logical as T2s are often eating a high carb diet when first diagnosed:

If your problem is gas or diarrhea, try eating less starch. These symptoms are caused by undigested starches reaching the gut where they are fermented by helpful bacteria
and suggests that slow release metformin may be a better option if such problems continue.
