.......I had inexplicably high readings at my mother's last time we had dinner there. I matched insulin to carbs eaten and didn't understand why my reading went through the roof. Today we went for dinner again and she offered me a can of Coke. It was NORMAL Coke and when I told her it was normal Coke she said "Oh, I thought it was Diet Coke. I gave you that last time you was here too." It just shows how even your own family can slip up big-time. Think I'll stick with water on my next visit.

Why do your nearest and dearest try to kill you off! I go to eat at my son's and what is there, pasta or rice! Puddings as well!!No will power when it comes to cheesecake!

I was force fed a piece of Black Forest Gateau today at my sisters maybe she does not like me

I remember as a child my Aunts BS was always high during visits, finally found out my Dad was stirring the teapot after adding sugar to his cup, and we always had several cups of tea. When she found out he was banned from tea duty!

My mother made her own - called it New Forest Gateau - but she knew not to tempt me once I was diagnosed.

Most people just say, "Its not very sweet. A little bit won't hurt you."

One of my sons makes the meanest, best Lasagne I have ever tasted!!It's worth going hyper for ,believe me!!

Can you not tell the difference between normal and diet coke then? As soon as it touches my lips I know when I have been given the wrong stuff. But then I am a diet coke addict, I can pretty much tell you blind the brand and type with one sip!

hey at least she'll double check the label next time! So it's unlikey to happen again...

Did you know accu-chek meters can detect glucose in drinks!?

I can tell the difference between diet and normal coke, good thing as well as I was in a restuarant once and we had drinks bought to our table and I sipped my coke and noticed straight away it wasn't diet! When I asked if they could change it as it was not diet coke I was told it is diet we don't make mistakes!! Having by now involved the manager and explained that you are going to make me very ill they decided to change my drink to diet coke and when I sipped it was totally different to the first one I had been given.

Just goes to show you how much you have to be on the ball all the time! Even as a coeliac I query when I see my mum put my bread on the same bread board she has just used to make sarnies with!! Needless to say that bread goes in the bin as its contaminated and poor old Mum has forgotten!!

You are so lucky!

I use diastix (urine testing strips for glucose) in any draught drinks that are served. It saves any hassle.

My work colleagues have bought me a box of roses for my birthday :!: :!: :!: and yes I have told them I am diabetic - hubby thinks it's great though another box of goodies for him
