Hi all,

I was just wondering if I could get some advice please, my mum recently had her diabetic eye screening and she had a letter saying her diabetes side of her eye screening was normal but they have found a non-diabetic related eye condition and she has been referred to a specialist at the hospital who will get in touch with her with an appointment, they said on the letter it’s very important she attends this appointment.
Obviously now, I am stressing, what could this mean?
If it helps, my mum has type 2 diabetes.

Thank you so much

I'd see this as a bonus for spotting the issue, because without the regular checks goodness knows how long that would have gone unnoticed.

Not the same but similar, my scan showed all good on the retinopathy but an issue with the back of my eye, (described as delaminating)

Awaiting op currently to fix, thankfully.

So good news is they spotted 'something' that might easily have gone unnoticed.

Bad news is, it's always worrying when ones we love need treatment.

But at least mum is going to get treated for it now.

As for 'important'...I imagine all such appointments are.
And I wouldn't put any more emphasis on the wording than that.

Best wishes to mum.

Hi @ZoeMarie2203 Welcome to the forum.
If your mum orders her prescriptions online, she may be able to read the letter that's been sent to her gp. If not, she could ask for a gp appointment, as they will be able to tell her what the screening found. I hope she gets her hospital appointment soon, and all goes well.

I would follow up with the suggestion to talk to the GP if you or your mum are concerned. They usually get a more detailed letter regarding the tests.
