Non-diebetic now, but later on?

I recently got my glucose checked in the US and my fasting blood glucose was 85 and my HbA1c was 5.7%. The chart says anything under 5.7 is considered normal and between 5.7 and 6.4 is prediabetes so technically I am right on the edge of pre. With that said, I am happy that my numbers are good, but I read that the older you get, the higher those numbers can get. Should I be starting to change my diet now? Thanks

What's your diet like? Even if you don't have diabetes, a healthy diet is always wise :)

You won't necessarily develop diabetes. I'd concentrate on living a healthy life and that will stand you in good stead.

Your 85 is 4.7mmol, which is a very good non-diabetic result : )

Well all my life (I am 25), I have loved sugar and carbs. I do NOT have a healthy diet but do occasionally eat fruit and other healthy things, but it is mostly "junk."

It's probably a good time to start changing that. Nothing extreme, just focusing on healthy foods with good nutritional value, and cutting back on the junk. The young-adult lifestyle usually isn't sustainable into the thirties and forties anyhow :-P

Hi @Luciekitty05 If you are eating mostly junk food, sugar and carbs at 25 it is likely that you will put on weight as you get older, which may well increase the visceral fat around your liver and pancreas, and that can trigger Type 2 diabetes. Fruit is not necessarily 'healthy' as most, especially tropical fruits, contain high levels of fructose which is sugar.
You are doing the right thing in addressing your diet now, before it affects your health. A healthier diet, and exercise now will help you avoid diabetic and other health problems as you get older.

Well then, it will be easy to improve your diet :)

Plenty of,people eat 'junk' and don't get diabetes, but if you're thinking about your general health, then a good diet can only be beneficial.

You've got the all-clear from your doctor when he/she checked for, diabetes. That's good news :)
