a couple of times recently my adult son has been feeling very ill. His bloods were 3.2 the first time, and 2.4 the second time.

He was in A & E the second time, so they gave him some sugary stuff in a tube, a wholemeal sandwich with egg, and two small cartons of orange juice.

in 2 hours he went up to 7.8

does this sound like a normal thing for a non diabetic? he had not been eating prior to the tests, for a couple of days. I thought his liver would have dumped glucose in to steady his levels.

After a couple of days of fasting the liver might be running low on glycogen? (I know there can be issues for T1s who have too many hypos in a short period.)
I am not a doctor, and obviously you should ask your doctor about this, but if it were my son I would not be too concerned by low blood sugars caused by 2 days of fasting.... It's when you get them for no reason that you worry...

So sorry about the GERD, but great that you have a diagnosis and he's being treated. I hope he feels better soon.

My guess, @lucylocket61 is that his liver could have been depleted by his fasting and being unwell. The saying, "you can't drink from an empty cup" might describe things quite well. I often say our bodies are very clever at looking after us, but if it runs out of resources, there's only so much it can do.

Sounds like the sandwich and drink did the trick though. I hope he's feeling better too.
