I started to get a grip on my diet half way through March, 1st of April I had lost 1stone in 2weeks. 1st of May I had lost another 6lbs and I was pleased with that. I weighed myself this morning any even though I stuck to my diet even on holiday. I only lost 2lbs during May. I know you do get times when you plateau, but I am so disappointed. I have so much weight to loose I hoped for a loss of 7lbs a month.
Still I mustn't give in to temptation, at least its a loss but only a small one unfortunately.

Which route have you gone with your diet?

lf you are doing excercise then often you wont show much weight loss as you will gain muscle which weighs more than fat.
You WILL have fat loss which is much more importaint start to measure yourself with a tape measure it will give you lots of confidence.

Thank you for your good positive advice, no I find exercise awkward as I suffer badly from Osteoarthritis. Once upon a time I used to go to the gym but I can't find the bottle to measure myself at the moment. I know if I carry on doing what I am food wise that the weight will come off I just got a bit down in the dumps. Thank you for your answer.

Keep going Opalshards, you are doing so well and the average weight loss per week is still very good. You should be very proud of yourself for sticking to your diet on holiday.....something I failed miserably at this year! I now have to pull myself together and get back to it......you're still there. Well done.

Thank you AndBreathe and Toto, but I think I have found the problem I haven't been doing carbs free. And I know I am allowed some bread, but I find I was having a couple of slices with poached eggs for breakfast then two more at tea time with my meal or as a sandwich. My bread of preference being Hovis seeded sensations, and you can't always get the small loaves.
So I have completely ditched the bread for now and changed to Quinoa with cinnamon and honey, or an omelette for Brunch as I don't get up early. And anything healthy for tea that does not require me to have bread. Either fish and cauliflower, or cold meat or tuna salad. Some days fresh fruit and nuts with yoghurt. So we will see how I get on. Thank you for your input.

I find adding the exercise difficult too. I started my diet just over 3 weeks ago and have lost zero, so I know how down it makes you feel. I know where I've gone wrong, it's taking a day off each weekend and allowing myself to eat and drink, totally overdoing it and undoing all my good work. Then I felt down and on Monday had a huge binge. Now I just have to get to grips with myself and stop the stupid behaviour.

I was going to the gym before Christmas, as part of a GP scheme, but I stopped going and can't seem to pluck up the courage to go back. I know why, it's because I have an assessment and haven't lost weight. That's not the reason I went. I was trying to strengthen my leg muscles ready for a knee op, and I know I've succeeded in that (even though the op's postponed due to high BS). It's stupid, as I know I like the gym when I'm doing it. Especially since the GP sessions are not filled with the body beautiful, but people like me, struggling to get fitter.

The trouble is, and maybe you're finding this too, that we lack confidence in this particular area of our lives. I sometimes think that if I had a similar buddy to go to the gym with it'd make me do it. Like posting on here, and the support we get, helps me carry on with the diet.

I need to bite the bullet and rejoin the gym. Even my mum is going to the gym at 69 and with emphysema!

I only weigh myself once a month, so I don't get obsessed with it. As for the gym I used to go on a regular basis doing weight training and Chi-Gung, but the Arthritis has got that bad I really struggle even to do a bit of Tai-Chi at home. It isn't lack of confidence, it isn't age, I just can't walk without a stick, and without pain.

Phew. Dispite having been on holiday in June I lost a further 6lbs last month. So glad I carried on instead of giving into temptation.

Congratulations on the weight loss Opalshards, I don't think you should be beating yourself up too much, you're actually achieving your targets -
There are 14lbs in a stone, so
1st April = 14lbs
1st May = 6lbs
1st June = 2lbs
1st July = 6lbs
Total loss = 28lbs (2 stone!!) over 4 months which averages at 7lbs a month!

Now tell me to shut up if you like, but I think you should be celebrating your achievement, not beating yourself up.

I'd also try to look at it from the blood glucose control angle rather than the diet angle. Unless there's a miraculous cure, you're going to have diabetes for the rest of your life, so it really doesn't matter all that much how much weight you're losing right now - the long term goal is the important one.

Well done, I'm glad you carried on instead of giving in to temptation too! Now if only I could follow your example next time I'm away........
