Hi all,
Can anyone help me please.
Firstly I would like to say I know I have been a stupid idiot and I am very angry at myself but I went into a strange mindset 2 weeks ago and came came off my lchf. I was drinking lager, sugary drinks, eating whatever took my fancy, chips bread pizza ice cream, Special K potatoes. I have been 500mg metoformin per day for last 6 months.

Now the unpleasant part, Last weekend I started with diahorrea, thought I had a bug however I was still eating the above diet. On Thursday my wife sat me down and gave me a right rollicking and made me see that eating this way was not good for me. So back of the lchf. However I am still having bouts of diahorrea and read ion Internet that too many carbs on metoformin can cause this. Plus I know I have overloaded on the sugar.

Blood on Thursday was 9.2 and Friday 8.7

I know you guys are all very sensible and would never do this but I wondered if you had any thoughts on the carbs/metoformin?

Again apologies for the unpleasant subject.

My a average B'S was around 15 up to 2 weeks ago ..Low carb diet since then .There averaging around 9 at the moment..which for me is great. .hopefully progress will see them lower even more ..it does take time

Thanks smigger62, well done. The lchf does work. My bloods are coming down but I was wondering if anyone else had overloaded on carbs and sugar in metoformin and had diahorrea.

Silver - You're not the first or the last who will take a detour off the wagon for a short while. Don't beat yourself up too much.

Eating a lot of carbs seems to increase the chances of an upset tummy, and you seem to have gone over that tipping point, by the sound of it. Provided that indeed is the cause of your tummy issues, it'll ease as your bloods come back under control. If it lasts into next week, then a quick call to your surgery might just ease your mind.

Good luck with it all.

Thank you @AndBreathe
I had a good day yesterday where I thought it was away but back again this morning. Tho I did have kfc chicken last night god I thought that was ok too eat so I told I told wife it was ok for me to eat that but maybe not.

The only time I ever had an upset tummy with metformin was when I had potatoes and another time when I had beer. So yes, for me carbs and metformin together did cause diarrhoea.

I can't think I've ever had KFC. (I'm not a fast food fan.)

However, from memory, I believe there's one KFC option that's fine - without batter or breadcrumbs, but I'm guessing that may not have been what you chose? Alternatively, if you did choose a coatings free chicken option, it could be the accompaniments were a bit carby.

No it was the crispy crumb. I'm thinking with my tummy being iffy the amount of fat it's cooked it may not have been good.

There may also be a gluten sensitivity issue involved. If I'm accidentally exposed to the stuff these days I get all sorts of weird gut symptoms. Whatever it was, glad to hear that you're back on track :)

Ahh I've had a few of those idiotic moments and boy did I pay for them. All you can do is put it down to experience and wait for the after effects to pass. I find it takes a good 3-7 days to get everything back to normal after going off the rails.

Please ...am t1 and I have days where I don't take it at all..slow or ...fast ....an the guys will tell me off for it on here..... But we all have snapping points .....
Look....you know you did bad ....but u should now know the sign of u feeling like ur not caring

U work on seeing signs of feeling like u need to burst and keep ur lady's ear bashing u got ...haha by way ....I had few of em too lol......you won't go down this road to many times again .....and no bashing your self up on this sir ....
We all do things to see how it would react to body !!!

Now as for the tabs and carbs ....not a bloody clue ...but sure some smart cookie will though ...
I just wanted to say ......we all been in that hole ...good to see u got out of it...even if was with a kick up the ass lol

Morning by way

Personally I think Metformin and the runs go hand in hand - very common side effect..glad I am no longer on them and got moved onto insulin which has no side effects whatsoever.

I don't have huge experience but would be interested in the too-many-carbs + Metformin = Runs equation. I'm on my 4th attempt at Metformin in a few weeks, and so far (Day #5 on SR) have been fine, as opposed to being tied to the bathroom all day. The only thing that's different is that I've lowered my carb intake. It's not "Low" but definitely lower.

If you've taken it for 6 months, and only felt the Runs effect after your trip off the waggon, it looks likely that there's your answer. Glad you've got someone to nag you back on! :)

Thank you so much to everyone who has commented. I am back on track, might take a few days more for things to settle down but it just shows that the "little of what you fancy does you good" clearly doesn't work for me. Anyway thank you all again for you support.

You stupid stupid stupid man!
Who in their right mind would behave like that?
This stupid stupid stupid man for one!
Done it a couple of times.
Why?
I can't answer that other than to say I think we just get fed up with it.
Hey lots of people on here will own up to being stupid.
I think a more correct term might be ..... human.
Pick yourself up dust yourself down and climb back up on the wagon.
Yes having the trots seems quite common for many.
It'll pass .... warmly and thinly but get better.
Keep your chin up.

As long as u know u was in te end

Personally I was brought off of metformin as I've got colitis. Severe diarrhoea sickness chills etc I'm now controlling it with low carbs . I'm a wheelchair user so I have a float jacket and swim twice to three times a week. Once you start it's brilliant, helped me a lot and lifted my spirits x
