Went to a physio this morning as had some knee trouble. When we got to the 'you need to lose weight' section she asked what my diet was like....... I took a deep breath waiting for the back lash and said, low carb which helps keep my BG under control. I was most shocked when she said 'well you sound like you know what your doing, you should cut all carbs out really as their not good for you and make you hungier!!!!!'

Makes a refreshing change.

Agreed, though I would broaden it out to "not all health care professionals worship carbs". We've had a lot of agreement with low carb eating from doctors, dentists and a consultant. They just seem to treat it as the common sense approach, barely worthy of comment, in their own lives as well as in the lives of diabetics. The advice to "eat more carbs" came from the diabetic nurse at the local practice, who was, I forced her to admit, "only saying what she had been told she had to say".
Hmm! "Only obeying orders", now where have I heard that one before?
Sally.

I am hopeful that advice is starting to change. Saw my GP yesterday for first post-diagnosis chat and at first he said avoid sugar and stick to moderate carbs then when I said I'll probably be low carbing as I already eat wholegrain versions of stuff , he said that really no one needs to be eating carbs other than maybe a bowl of porridge for breakfast to get you going( I didn't push my luck and say I find protein far better first thing) and that certainly for best weight loss I'd be better just cutting the bread, rice etc out fullstop. He even said that "we" are coming to see that the advice to fill up on carbs was perhaps not such a great piece of advice after all.

i'm just glad when "the light at the end of the tunnel" isn't some sicko with a flashlight!

I would imagine like all walks of life NHS workers will have different ideas on what is a healthy diet and will follow their own instinct, so Lenny not sure why you would think all NHS workers worship carbs.....it's rather an odd thing to say or assume:confused:

To be fair to OP, all he said was "makes a refreshing change". Doesn't really mean all NHS workers worship carbs. I agree though, the NHS is the same as any other profession in that there will be differences of opinion.

It was the assumption that they do, ask any 100 people a question on what is a healthy diet and you'll get a 100 different answers, the NHS workers will be no different.
