Omg sorry ...it posted wrong ! I asked HOW DO I TEST MY BLOOD SUGAR ..3 times a day? And what times ? / when

Thanks

Hi :)

When are you having your HbA1C test? Why not wait for that? A doctor is best placed to put your mind at ease about diabetes.

I know you've posted the results of a few blood tests and they looked absolutely fine as far as anyone can see here (we're not medical professionals) but if you're worried, then do see your doctor :)

Hi

I'll have to ask when I get an appointment at the doctors ..and it can be quite hard to book one

I bought s blood glucose testing kit ..might as well use it..right ?

I just have no idea when to test ..

Some surgeries have nurses who are able to do tests for you and give health checks. You could try seeing if it's quicker to see a nurse, if that's an option.

Have you spoken to a doctor before about your concerns, or had any tests @walkingmoose ?

I had a fasting blood glucose test about 4-5 months ago. 4.7

However I know I'm not very healthy and although I'm not having any major symptoms ..aching foot when I walk..slightly . Tired after eating carbs . I do scratch my skin hard but getting more small cuts . I eat a lot of sugAr . Quite inactive too

OK. The general advice is to test 2 hours after a meal and also just before if you want to see the effect of that meal. I would avoid 'fasting tests' or early morning tests as they can be unreliable due to the overnight liver dump of glucose (glycogen). Anything below around 8.5 mmol is fine. The HBa1C is an excellent test if the GP will do it without any hint of diabetes?

@walkingmoose And I presume the doctor told you that you didn't have diabetes then? Were you told to have another test in 12 months or similar?

None of the symptoms you mentioned mean you have diabetes. Being 'unhealthy' doesn't necessarily mean you have diabetes either.

Is it your weight that's making you worry about it? Your age?

Hi,thanks for the reply ..I looked on the page of this website about testing and it said for non diabetics after 2 hours of not eating anything up to 7.8 is fine ..but type 2 diabetes is up to 8.5 ..did you mean that ?

I really hope the doctor will say yes ..it will feel so frustrating if they say no !

I think I will try that yes...! So..it doesn't matter if I do it
.say..2 hours after eating dinner..at around ..10 pm ??

: )

It was 4.7 and he said it seems to be good/ no problems

I just am aware of lifestyle being a ..big ..influence ..sigh . I'm just interested and being inactive according to websites is very bad . Why shouldn't I be worried

No one ever believes me .

I just feel that wasn't a very good accurate test . From what I've heard people say . I done two other home tests and it was above 6 .

My waist is about 34 inches . Need to lose some I guess ..again ..another big type 2 risk

@walkingmoose Yes, of course an unhealthy lifestyle isn't ideal for anyone. It's good to want to improve your lifestyle whether you have diabetes or not :)

But it could well be you're worrying about diabetes unnecessarily. It's enough of a worry if you've got it - believe me! So if you've had a test and the doctor has reassured you all seems to be well, then that's a good thing.

6 is absolutely fine. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I didn't know much about it. My blood sugar was 25. I asked the nurse what a normal blood sugar was and she told me hers had gone up to 10 after a big meal and that was ok and she didn't have diabetes.

Are you male or female? Different waist size recommendations for each.

Very true .

I feel sad as I was passionate about knowing about it but maybe it's fine . I've always been sad I havnt got anything ..but don't want diabetes bit in a way wanted pre diabetes to ..try harder not to have type 2 I guess.

I am female .

That was Months ago. So literally no point going to doctors? I even ask for my results printed as I'm interested in medical stuff like that . But maybe doctors just don't and won't take me seriously anymore .

I even feel a tiny bit hungry now . But why . I only ate 2 eggs and 2 slices of toast about an hour ago

Life is hard.

You won't get diabetes by hanging around the diabetes forum. In fact, you'll probably never get diabetes at all.

If you actually are worried about diabetes there are three things I think you could do.

1. Improve you diet.
2. Get moving, get some exercise.
3. Sign up for some other forum, not health related, and quit the diabetes forum.

It did occur to me that your surgery may have some kind of general health clinic. They often have separate ones for men and women. I've never been to one, but I've noticed signs for them in my surgery. It looked like they check things like blood pressure and give general health advice. That might be something to look into maybe.

Or, of course, your local sports centre or rambling club, etc.

I'm not sure if you want to have diabetes to motivate you? But I honestly believe the best motivator is yourself. Improve your life and lifestyle for yourself not for anyone or anything else :)

Walkingmoose, I'm going to go out on a limb here. Do you have any MH issues, such as depression? People do care here but with the caring comes some honesty - you have been repeatedly advised that you have neither prediabetes, nor diabetes, but you are still posting here. You have had a test done at the docs, have normal numbers, yet say you are kind of hoping that you have prediabetes so you can stop yourself getting type 2. Can you see this really doesn't make any sense?
Motivation to change diet and lifestyle seem to be lacking, which is why I asked about depression, plus the fact that you don't get out of bed until 2pm, eat loads of sugar and carbs, and don't exercise at all. I get the impression that you are hoping to have prediabetes as it will then give a cause for you to carry on living very unhealthily, rather than motivation to change, and I think deep down you know that is the case. Think of it along lines of the diet that will always start tomorrow (so let's stuff what we can today) and the giving up smoking tomorrow (so let's smoke twice as much because it will soon be taken away). You are keeping on doing the same thing in the vague hope that something will come along..something that you can tie in with all the symptoms you have, and you can then use them as the reason.

I doubt very much whether anybody on here will advise you to check your bloods regularly, it just isn't necessary. If you decided to buy a monitor, even after all the advice you have had, that's down to you - it's your responsibility. But you really need to try and understand that it's not a case of nobody believing you, but that you have absolutely normal, non-diabetic blood glucose levels.
I have mentioned Health Anxiety here on this forum before and unfortunately, some were offended. But the fact remains that this is a common condition, where people read up on a particular illness, and try and fit their symptoms to that illness - I have seen quite a few here, including have had tests which prove otherwise. There are some cases where people are misdiagnosed, but there are usually other factors - you really don't fit into that category. I know this may seem harsh, but if you keep posting the "hope I have's", while making no changes, it is going to put people's back up. Diabetes is a tough condition to deal with, and people put a lot of work into trying to stay as healthy as they can - you have a chance to avoid it. Why not use the interest you have, and channel it into ways to help yourself? A lower carb diet can be followed by anyone, it is interesting and can make a big difference to how you feel in general.

Good luck with making some changes!:)
