Hi, Just thought I'd join this to see if I can get some answers. I'm not diabetic but have had odd symptoms over the past few years. I've noticed my blood sugar goes high ish through the night and stays there. As soon as I get out of bed and move, it drops. Any idea what's happening? I've been told I've got elevated cholesterol and blood pressure is pre-hypertension. Hba1c was 39 3 months ago, got another blood check next month. Thanks for any help
 
With an A1c of 39 you are bang normal, so as you say not diabetic. Everyone's blood sugar fluctuates depending on a number of factors - food, illness, stress, activity etc. There's also the "dawn phenomenon" where a lot of us experience comparatively higher BGs on waking which then fall, without other intervention.

You don't say what your actual readings are, so I don't know what you mean by high-ish. Also - I'm assuming you're using a fingerprick monitor? They have some degree of error, usually taken to be up to +/- 15%.

The other thing is that nobody on here can or should attempt to diagnose. Not that your current A1c gives any cause for concern as far as T2 goes.... but if you are anxious, please discuss with your doctor.
 
Hi, thanks for the quick response. 5.5 just before sleep. 2am 6.5, 4am 7.2, 7am 6.2. Get up, 4.9. My dad had diabetes, that's why I'm checking, along with symptoms that come and go. Thanks

What did you eat before bedtime ?
Also, are you pricking yourself every 2 hours during the night ? Respect
 
Hi. Sardines on toast at around 6pm and that was it. I'm only testing every other day to see if a pattern emerges.
 
Waking up to test during the night will be affecting your readings. I believe DP can occur at around 4 - 5 am, then a potential liver top up when actually rising if needed. When your Liver drops some glucose, your insulin levels will rise to allow your system to use the glucose. rises and falls like yours are actually a sign of a system doing what it is supposed to.
