Not diagnosed... But worried

Hi everyone,

I've not been diagnosed with diabetes, but I'm having some symptoms and I just wanted some advice as to whether it sounds like it could be diabetes, or some other issue.

Basically I have to eat every 3 hours or so - if I don't, I start by feeling hungry and getting a headache, then my hands (which always tremble a little) start shaking and get progressively worse, then the headache worsens, my face goes red and sweaty, I start feeling a bit weak, then I get really irritable. By this point I usually manage to eat something sugary and the problems start to subside - but if I don't then I often get a migraine and have to go lie in a dark room.

I also need to go to the toilet a lot - it's become a bit of a joke at work, but it's not really that funny!

I've managed to cope with this for around 6 years now, as previously the symptoms weren't too bad - but the past 6 months they've become a lot more noticeable - the headaches are worse, the trembling happens more often, and I'm going to the loo more and more.

I'm aware that this isn't normal, and my friend suggested diabetes, so I just wanted to see whether anyone recognises these symptoms, or thinks it could be something else? I've been hesitant in going to the doctor as I had a test done at the chemist about 3 years ago, and they said that whilst my reading was high it wasn't anything to worry about.

Any help/advice is much appreciated :D

Hi and welcome to the forum. Please ,for your own peace of mind and your health go and get blood tests done to find out exactly what is wrong!!

hya and welcome, it could be diabetes or many other things so as sue says, go get checked out and let us know how u get on :D

Sounds suspiciously like Reactive Hypoglycemia (BTDT) which is often a precursor to diabetes proper and which should respond to the same treatment, reducing your carbs and eating small quantities more often. This may or may not show on the typical fasting test the doctor does, the A answer would be to get your own BG meter and do this

http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2009/ ... -test.html

starting about half an hour after eating and going out to around 4 hours

The B answer would be to eat a dose of carbs and go to your friendly (I hope) local pharmacy about an hour later for a spot blood glucose test

A Glucose Tolerance Test would be the gold standard but due to cost cutting you may have difficulty persuading your doctor to do this

the only way is to go to doctor.fancy the chemist saying its high but donot worry.i went to doctor before i was diagnosed with pains in feet one doctor said it was artheritise he knew my mum was di abetic.then went to see another doc he sent me for test and i was diagnosed type2 this was about10years ago.if i had not got a second oppinion who knows what would happen so go and get proper check :)
