I have been, like the rest of us, on the extremely vulnerable list, and yet apparently the doctor is saying that Type 1 Diabetes may no longer qualify me for the second of the booster jabs....?
@Hi LionChildI have Type 1 Diabetes and have been wondering when I would be called up for the 2nd Booster jab, but had heard nothing. so I rang my doctors surgery who say they are not organising jabs anymore not contacting people with information etc about the second Booster. I have been, like the rest of us, on the extremely vulnerable list, and yet apparently the doctor is saying that Type 1 Diabetes may no longer qualify me for the second of the booster jabs....?
Since the infection and death rate is still pretty high, this I find scary.
Does anyone else have queries about this, or even answers?
She said she will get back to me as she did not know herself what the present arrangements are, but had doubts about my booster eligibility in terms of the second one....
I think it depends if you are considered "extremely vulnerable".I have Type 1 Diabetes and have been wondering when I would be called up for the 2nd Booster jab, but had heard nothing. so I rang my doctors surgery who say they are not organising jabs anymore not contacting people with information etc about the second Booster. If the GPs don't know what is going on, who does?!
I have never seen Type 1 diabetes on the Extremely vulnerable list.
I thought that list was for people who were immuno-compromised and were advised to shield.
I have chosen to minimise my risk throughout the pandemic by ensure my weight is managed to be a healthy BMI through lots of exercise and healthy diet as the risk is higher if you are obsese or overweight and manage my diabetes as the risk is higher for people with a HBa1C over 75.
With regard to high death rate, I recently read that the death rate from flu in 2018/19 was higher than the death rate from covid at the start of this year.
I continue to keep myself and others safe by taking regular LFTs and wearing a mask when I am out but I am not expecting a second booster jab.
All our immune systems reduce with age but like others say diabetes is not on the severe auto immune list we have two type1 diabetics in our family and they haven’t received any word on them getting a second booster has yet. KI don't think I understand this auto-immune thing, I thought type 1 diabetics were immuno-compromised. No?

Sorry to hear about your Covid stay in hospital hope your feeling much better now, and totally agree with you about having any booster jabs offered I would have them too. Best Wishes KOne thing on the letter I had inviting me for my third jab it explicitly stated that it was not a booster but a third full dose and that I would receive a booster in due course and have since received a letter inviting me to book a booster.
I still ended up in the covid ward with covid pneumonia and such a few weeks ago at the local hospital during my stay there the consultant said that as I had contracted the disease I would have extra immunity and would not require a further jab though if still offered I will take it any way.
I have weakened immune system due to steroid medication.
My brother in law who is T1 was not considered as critically or severely vulnerable.
@JohnEGreen I don't want to derail this thread but I love and am intrigued your avatar.
And sorry to read you suffered with covid. I hope your recovery is swift.
We're not. While T1 is an auto-immune disease, this only means your immune system is attacking the wrong thing (beta cells). It doesn't mean your immune system works any less than that of a non-diabetic.I don't think I understand this auto-immune thing, I thought type 1 diabetics were immuno-compromised. No?

Yes. LADA is T1.Isn't that the same when it comes to LADA?
Everybody over 16 year old can get the third covid shot from their GP, pharmacy, popup vax clinics at major shopping centres, car parks etc here in Australia.Heck, my husband's had his 3rd jab, and he's a regular 49yr old office worker.
Is this a geographical postcode lottery thing? I had my 2nd booster end of Nov, so three jabs in all. Our local vaccination centre is opening once per week with Pfizer and Astra Zeneca, no appointment needed. They are doing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th jabs. I did query the fourth jab, and it's for people whose 3rd jab was a booster not the full dose, which happened for some early-jabbed severely immune compromised people.

Seacrow, 3 jabs is only one booster. The initial programme was one dose, plus a follow up 6 or 3 months later (depending on timing of the first dose. I believe the topic of discussion here are a further jab, making 4, which is only for specific groups at the moment.
As I understand it, everyone else (adults that is) will be offered a further top up in due course.
