So, having spent two months dealing with the flare up of another health condition, I'm finally ready to start trying to manage my T2. I've ordered a monitor (hate waiting for the postman) and am reading up on low carbs - only to find that so many things I previously thought of as being part of a healthy diet, such as porridge and fruits are now off the menu! The only fruits I really enjoy are grapes and bananas. I've not even bothered to look at wheat biscuits which for me are joint favourites with porridge.

I'll admit that I do not have a balance diet - I don't tend to eat until teatime as I don't get hungry. Even at teatime, I don't eat huge portions. I also have full dentures (teeth wrecked by chemo) which I hate wearing while I eat, so healthy nuts as snacks are out of the question.

I know all the theories such as eating a healthy breakfast and small regular meals, not concentrating on what I can't eat etc but right at this moment am feeling so **** miserable and "why me", which is not my normal attitude to unexpected downturns in my health.

Sorry, rant over - am off to get corned beef butty for lunch (well I've got to use it up!)

There are so many lovely recipe's on the Low Carb threads I'm sure you will be able to find something that will please your taste buds more than porridge and wheat biscuits, I admit to drooling over them on a regular basis, especially when I'm on a downer and getting good ideas from them to perk me up.
Don't give up now because your feeling low, have a peep at them, and I love corned beef wrapped in lettuce with a dollop of real mayonnaise yummy.

I would get your meter and then test these foods that you enjoy but think need to give up.........

you may find it isn't as bad as you thought and you can get them into your diet in smaller amount etc.......

don't count anything out, life is for living............:)

Hi and welcome. You can have some fruit but avoid tropical ones where you can. How about eggs and bacon for breakfast or muesli with cold milk? You will gradually find there are many foods you can eat apart from all the carby stuff

Hi, welcome,

I didn't feel I could completely give up bread, and was pleased to come across livlife bread, very low carb, but tastes OK!

Not sold everywhere, but if you can source it, it might help. I don't eat that much of it now, but is great to know I can have bread, so always have it in the freezer.

All the best.
