Not getting enough test strips

Some horror stories here. Just 2 points-if you add up the ammount of tax paid and contribution to society as a whole by diabetics who make an effort this far outwighs the cost of a few strips in the long run.

Also why not total up the cost of emergency admissions re hypo collapses and further add the cost of amputations cardiac and stroke admissions and ketotic admissions and I think THIS would far outweigh the cost of strips.

Sometimes it's not just the GP's though, local Primary Care Trusts developed big budget deficits
just over a year ago and there is no doubt that they put the screws on GP's to stop prescribing so much even though diabetics NEED to test for obvious reasons even though we don't actually enjoy it much!.

Bit of Advice, get in touch with the parient advisory body PALS locally and highlight this. In addition, your local councils now have a health scrutiny finction. Write to your councillor or directly to the Chair of the health scrutiny board of your council if there are strip or other presctibing problems in your area. Finally your MP needs to know too.

In addition the companies who make this stuff must be making a killing , be better if they were in public hands and provided for the public good wouldn't it?

By the way, my GP has been brilliant, but admitedly I am testing way too much generally but at the moment I still have to do 4 times a day, more if I am hill walking cos I don't want to have the cost and time of mountain rescue added to the list above.

All we are doing is following advise to stay leading a normal life and stay productive and remember, we pay to support the PCT's etc.

Hi,
I drive a 7.5 tonne van and have to unload it myself.
I`m told i can test twice a week, I can drop 3-4 points in about 6 deliverys making me under 4 mmol, but what the hell nobody seems to care and if i do have any problems and have an accedent and kill someone I can always say NICE say thats right.
Health and Safty in this country is just a joke, as long as i wear my Hi Viz and dont smoke in the van I`m ok.

it's totally unacceptable for a pregnant woman not to have enough strips. Have you tried asking the doctor what he/she plans to do if your baby has problems? It's not that long, historically since women were advised not to try to bring a pregnancy to term if they were diabetic. The woman doctor who taught me First aid in my Cambridge days, told me that she delivered one of the first babies born safely to a diabetic mother in Britain.

I've just collected prescriptions for 100 Ascensia & two weeks before 100 Onetouch Ultra - I use both meters. At present I am doing about 100 tests/month while I am trying to reduce BS & complications. Previously about 40/month. I'm T2 & male.

Do not get stuff on E bay!! Much of it is fake. In fact, warnings have been posted about fake onetouch strips being sold so either get them from a proper online chemist (RealPharmacy seems OK when I've used them) or from a chemist OTC. GIVE E BAY A BIG MISS.

Oh please, the same can be said about any large marketplace.
