I'm sorry I haven't interacted much lately but I've not been (and am not) in a great place. Anxiety had ramped up and I'm not quite sure why. I've taken steps to address it, but they haven't really worked. This isn't just a temporary bout of anxiety, but something which affects me every day, and has done for a while. I might try some meditation techniques, or if that doesn't work, I may contact my GP. Anyway, I hope to reduce my anxiety soon, and participate in the forum more in the future.

Yes I no longer watch the news, & I get what you mean about the age thing - I was fine when I hit 60, had a whale of a time with about 6 months of birthday celebrations. When I hit 61 it hit me hard & I worried for quite a while about what ifs etc

Oh @IanBish so sorry to hear you are struggling, I too have had periods of anxiety over the last few years and always am sure better times will follow. I agree with not watching the news and instead watching nature. With my 64th birthday looming tomorrow I don’t care anymore and very much believe it’s a statistic I can’t do anything about. Come and have a moan here when you feel ready and I hope your mood lifts soon x

Happy birthday . Hope you have a great day.

Like others here I've had periods of anxiety throughout my life including, personally, quite severe episodes in the past particularly in my fifties which have been crippling - stopping me functioning and getting outside at all. I have had to seek help over the years and some sort of help from the NHS may be useful. I had some CBT which helped me
I find the following routines always really helpful:
Walking and more walking - particularly in nature if possible
Avoiding the news as much as possible - I try to restrict it to a quick summary reading of headlines.
Using the app Headspace every day as part of my bedtime wind down routine
Prioritising sleep - looking at things you can do to improve it for example wearing an eye mask to cut out the early morning light especially.
Zero birthdays can have that effect I find making you review and focus on how your life is going - a bit like new years! I
Hope you can take some little steps to help you feel less anxious it's very unpleasant.

Sorry you're going through it @IanBish - I am fortunate that my anxiety has diminished a lot in the past few years, so much so that I've been able to stop antidepressants. There is light at the end of the tunnel, hang in there x

I've been looking at various resources and exercises
I lead a health walk once a week and attend others in the same scheme in my area. Maybe try and see if there’s something like that where you live? It’s good to meet like minded people and we always head for a green space.

Thanks. I've been looking at various resources and exercises on the NHS web site, and will try some of those this week. Fingers crossed!
There are some great resources around - a really simple one I was given was uneven breathing - in for count of three, and out for count of four. I'm not sure exactly why it works but it does the trick to calm the worst anxiety attacks for me. I still get the odd one, usually at night and it's like a panic attack but the breathing takes it down a level or two and then I can get to sleep.
