Type 1 Not sure if insulin went in

I’ve just done my morning injection before breakfast and not sure if I injected all my insulin and don’t know what to do. The reason I think that is because I injected thru my tshirt and when I looked down the needle was out and shirt wet but don’t know how long that had been for. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Firstly, don't re-inject. If you have injected the insulin, you'll just end up having a hypo.

I would just monitor a bit more often, probably hourly and should it prove you didn't inject, treat it with a correction dose in a couple of hours time. Don't forget that your background insulin is still working as well.

Hope this helps.

Best guess is you've lost a little, but it could only ne a couple of units. If it's the short acting then just keep doing blood tests - it'll soon be obvious if you're going too high. As a T1, it's generally better to have too little than too much, you really don't want to go hypo.
Having said that, what type of insulin was it and how much were you trying to inject?

Thanks. It was Novorapid and 14 units.

I did this many times when I used to inject and have made the mistake of putting in another 2 or 3 units and my blood suddenly dropping to 3 or below and not coming up to a safe level for hours! you'll be best monitoring bloods and correcting if it goes hyper because if it drops it's really difficult to predict.

I did pretty much the same the other day. The nurse at York hospital told me to have 1 unit and re check every hour. I was meant to have 4 units but I don't think I pierced my skin properly as I could see liquid on my belly.

Although I’ve been a diabetic now for nearly 8 years I was changed from type 2 to type 1 in June last year after a DKA episode and two nights in hospital then put on insulin. It’s the first time this happened. Instinct was telling me not to inject again but good to have the back up thank you. Levels were a little higher when I tested again so just adjust then.
