Hi. Yesterday I had quite a big overdose of novorapid. An ambulance was called. When the paramedics came they check my sugars and everything else and all my levels were ok as I ate some chocolate and had a sandwich. Today I am getting bad back and abdominal pains mainly on my right side. Do I need to go to the hospital?

Some may argue that you didn't need to go to hospital for taking too much novorapid, but if you're new and inexperienced thats fair enough....

The pain you're getting could be related to your \BG levels but maybe not.......it could be wind........so if you are really uncomfortable with the pain you could phone NHS24......hospital seems a bit premature.....

Are you newly diagnosed?

Hi there, sounds like an unpleasant experience hopefully it won't be so bad next time. To treat bad hypos you need fast sugars. Best thing is glucose tablets, but jelly babies and sugary drinks also work. Chocolate is slow to enter your blood because of the fat content, and if your sugar levels are falling fast it can make a real difference. Bread is fast too, but you need to chew it to break the starch bonds and not put butter and cheese on it.

The pain could be anything, so if it is bad it's probably best to have it looked at. I've never had anything like that from a hypo. Hope you feel better soon.

I can't advise you on that, and nobody here can diagnose you. If you have concerns then please call your doctor or NHS 111.

I know the only time I've ever had pain after a hypo was cos during said hypo I bashed my head on a kitchen workbench (I had a lump on my forehead for a day or two!), @Neil2784 could you have twisted oddly during said hypo thus causing the back pain?
