Hi Folks,

I was diagnosed with Type 2 in 2011, and put on the first drug (Metformin), did nothing for my BS, so over time they upped the doseage until I was on the Max daily allowance. Then on to Gliclazide and recently Sitagliptin, but again none of these did anything to bring the BS down. I knew this was not right and kept telling my GP...until recenlty he took more bloods, and Hospital rang yesterday to say I actually have Type 1, late onset version.

So from this morning I am on low initial doses of 2 Insulin pens....one 24 hours, the other with each main meal.

On the plus side I've been told that I should be able to sleep the night without visits to the loo...but on the negative, the weight I lost will go back on!

But for me, just feeling better and getting the BS under control is more improtant than weight!....I can get the finger out and train to get the weight under control if it does go up too much!

glad you finally have a proper diagnosis and can finally get the blood sugars under some kind of control.........

once your settled with the insulin you can then tackle any weight issues that have arisen....

The same thing happened to my mum - although it was many years ago. Initially diagnosed with Type 2, she was a normal weight and no medications would work for her, and she lost more weight. She also had Kidney Failure. Eventually she was diagnosed with late onset Type 1 (she was early 50's) and once they switched her to insulin things rapidly improved.

I hope you start to see an improvement soon!

Thanks for that. Yes, I have been started on 2ml of Humalog for Breakfast and Lunch and 4ml at dinner. Then 8ml of the slow acting one at night. Dibetic nurse was very very confident I'd not be up in the night for my ususal 3/4 trips to the toilet, but she was wrong, like clockwork I've been up the same number of times.

Just taken a test and my bloodsugar is 12.8. I'll have breakfast later on and take another 2ml of Insulin.

I am back in on Tuesday and suspect my dose will need to go up!

I get the impression Diabetes is not that well known about in the GP community...could be wrong...they might just have to go through the motions with pills before the do the rights tests to determine Type 1 or not.
