I rarely drink, but just curious about the sugar level in certain alcoholic drinks, cant seem to find any information on the bottle or online. Does anyone know where I could find out?

Just try Googling “carbs in Vodka” or whatever. I just tried Vodka and beer as examples and it comes up straight away!

What in particular do you drink, if you're drinking spirits with diet fizzy you don't have to worry about carbs.

I have a book at home called carbs and cals... they have both the calories and carbs for a number of drinks from beers to spirits :)

The only thing I continue to use from my copy of 'Living with Diabetes: a New Zealand Guide to Healthy Eating' is the wonderful chart on 'alcohol, energy and carbohydrate' at the back of the book. I made myself very popular by photocopying it and handing it out to many interested parties at a diabetes self-management course.

I can't count the amount of times I have explained to folks that the little fermentation bugs eat most if not all of the sugar in the fermentation process. Great news for those of us spurning sugar, who like an alcoholic beverage. Mixes and liqueurs of course are a no no if going low carb. Cider and beer are only to be tempered with. Although I do know some ex predibetics who are 'so far so good' on regular beer consumption. (Watch this space!) (Although I hope not.) But, for the low carbers, so much spirit and dry wine and bubbly is left to us! Yay!

Aaah I have that book as well. Just goes to show how long it's been since I looked at it, I didn't even realise the chart was there.

I was particularly interested in warninks advocaat, malibu, and archers peach schnapps, all of which I know will contain lots of sugar, I just wanted to see how much!

I just googled archers peach schnapps and it came back as 7gr sugar per shot. Warninks Advocaat was 10gr sugar per shot and Malibu has 5.1 gr per ounce. All I did was search for Malibu carb count and it came up. My fitness pal actually had the other two.

I generally do whisky and diet coke or whisky and water.. Having said that I do sometimes go for cocktails but these are usually whisky based and not sugary so I don't bolus for that as any highs will automatically be levelled out by the next morning.

This is what works for me anyway.

If you just have hard liquor, there’s no impact on your blood sugar, within moderation.

Wine has carbs, so does beer.

Here’s a great video by an obesity and diabetes specialist, she’s great!

A new favourite drink of mine is, gin and club soda with lemon. Add a few cucumber slices too, it’s so refreshing.

If I have a beer at home these days, I drink Marston's Resolution bottled beer, chilled from the fridge; it goes well with spicy food like curry. Unfortunately my wife likes it too, even though she's a lager drinker! It is a low carb beer that has minimal measurable impact on by BG.I've not seen it in supermarkets, so I buy it mail order from the brewery, 3 cases at a time (free postage) and that stock lasts a few months.

Hi, I sometimes buy that directly from Banks` brewery which is just a few miles away, lovely drink and only 1.65g carbs per 1/2 pint bottle:).
