Type 2 Nutritional ketosis and lack of body fat

I've just remembered a video on youtube I saw years ago, by Dr Bernstein.
He was discussing the difficulty he had preventing weight loss for his very low carb patients, and how he tried different measures to try and get them to gain weight (or to re-gain it).
He tried all sorts of things, including instructing them to drink a shot glass of olive oil before every meal (gosh, that is going to whet your appetite, isn't it?)
But that didn't work.

In the end, he just found that increasing protein would work, although any weight gain was very slow.

Hope that helps.

I like Ben Bikman’s categorization to

Emphasize Healthy Fats is number one

Prioritize Protein number two

Minimize carbohydrates as third.

Is that a good idea for someone who's borderline underweight? (Maybe it is, but I'd be cautious.)
Yes it should be.. just because you eat less often doesn't mean you eat less..just have bigger meals when you do eat.

That is what I did to stop weight loss. Added in more fats and slightly more protein. Resulting in steady bg, so far so good - pants havn't fallen down in ages.

I quickly ran the NHS BMI calculator, based on @nsh2111 's declared height and weight, and the BMI comes out at 21.7, so I don't think there would be any immediate clinical concern for underweight. That's pretty well bang in the middle of the Healthy range.

Hello,

I have read online that nutritional ketosis is when your body uses fats around your organs to feed itself and provides the benefit of cleaning.

How would a person with 13%- 14% body fat and no weight to loose enter this state then? I am 5' 7" and weight about 63 Kg. Have not got a lot of fat around most parts of my body except may be some right around centre pf belly button.

I have been LCHF for 6-7 months and have only seen small improvement in BS control( it has not gone worse also so positive)

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
You can power your body with your own body fat if you have it or with the fats you eat in your meals if you don't have any to spare.

Thank you all for answers. I will experiment with protein

Edited to correct typo

Britpants! Lol mind you at one point it was both.
Leaning closer to whisper in your ear.:playful:
I lost weight so fast upon going low carb, I had to put a knot in mine at some point:banghead:....they would not stay up for love nor money, I was effectively needing to go down in size every few weeks and I was tired of constantly shopping for undies - It was tedious:hilarious:

Hi. As another poster has said you need to think about the possibility of being LADA and not T2. Not having excess weight and seeing rising BS whilst low-carbing is an indicator of a LADA in the honeymoon period. Ask your GP for GAD and C-Peptide tests.

Will get these done in India as i am travelling soon. These tests are easy to arrange there.
