Obsessed with testing!!!!

I have been type 1 for 32 years now and have never had any restrictions on any medication etc. I test 4 times a day on a regular basis and more often if I feel I am going lo/hi. I get my test strips on my repeat prescription and get them as I require them. I was even told by my GP that I was entitled to free cotton wool on prescription for use after finger pricking - an offer which I refused! I feel lucky that I am in an area with good PCT and excellent GP.
Good luck to all other not so fortunate.

Sorry not a lot to add as everyone's pretty much covered it, but I'm shocked to hear about the lack of strips you are all being given

I thought life was hard when my Dr wouldn't let me have more than one type of strip (2 diff BM machines, one's at home with me and the other is at the stables) but to refuse to give you them?!

No wonder people's diabetes are getting worse....surely it's better to fork out more money on strips than it is to fund a week in ITU/Wards due to DKA, HONK, Hypoglycaemic coma etc etc

I remember one time I put in a repeat prescription for some testing strips and the gp said I dont need to test so much. I said, Im not but Im putting in the repeat prescription as the strips I have are just gone past their expiry date. Shut him up

Don't forget to also remember or write down the date you open the pot of strips....they are only viable for 3 months after opening .. its in the long tiny print on the advisory sheet that comes with the strips. . . . below is an extract of one I found via Google

• After removing a OneTouch® Ultra® Test Strip from the
vial, immediately replace the vial cap and close it tightly.
• Use each test strip immediately after removing it from the vial.
• Do not use test strips from any vial that is damaged or left open to air.
• Write the discard date (3 months after first opening the vial) on the
vial label when you first open it. Discard remaining OneTouch®
Ultra® Test Strips after the discard date.

That's very encouraging news riverman, often HCP come under constant criticism and ridicule from people so its always nice to hear from someone who has had a positive experience. :)
