Hi i am new here and i am seeking some advice,
i am a 47yr old female, and have pcos so i have been aware that i need to watch my sugar levels, also my father was type 2, i am ashamed to say i have aloud myself to gain a lot of weight over the years and so i am trying to do something about it now, i am on a low carb diet and slowly losing some,i bought a BG moniter and my fasting in the mornings are around 5.5, 2 hours after eating around 6.2/6.8, i have been having a few symptoms of type 2 ie, tiredness dry mouth urinating alot. The dr tested my fasting and says its fine, so i went a head and did a OGTT at home with lucazade, the results have me confused, they were, 1st test before lucazade drink having fasted first was 5.5, 1hour later 10.1, 2hour 7.8, 3 hour 9.0, i was expecting it to be lower at 3 hours not higher, can that happen? and are the results in the normal range or inpaired, on previous days if i have eaten a high carb meal,(not often now) 2 hours after it can be anywhere around 6.9 to 7.9 i even had a reading of 11.0 after a meal of meat & potato pie and chips  i have tried to find out what it should of been after 3 hours but can only find the 2 hour results,
sorry this is long but i am confused ,is there anything i should be concerned about.

thankyou for anyone taking there time to read and answer

Hi Kally and welcome to the forum :) You need to go back to your doctor to find out if you really are diabetic or not if you are in doubt. If you are diagnosed as diabetic then come back here and we can help you to control your levels. Your fasting level is fine as the doctor said. You should not rely on your own OGTT test as it may not be accurate and won't be done with Lucozade at the doctors. I hope you won't mind me saying that a meal with meat, potato pie and chips is not low carb and will not help you to lose weight or reduce your BG levels.

Let us know how you get on if you go back to the doctor. :)

If you suspect that you may be Diabetic, as Daisy advised, you need to go and discuss this with your GP. Get a proper diagnosis.

Nobody here is able to make such a diagnosis.

If you find you are, then come back here and you will get plenty of help and advice.

Hi, thankou for replying,

My dr doesn't seem concerned so i didnt want to push for further test, this is why i tried to do a ogtt at home, i will continue to control it with diet, Daisy the m&p pie and chips was last year before i started on the low carbs diet definitley never eating that again. i just wanted to know if it was normal for a spike at 3 hours but not at 2 hours ? sorry i wasnt looking to be diagnosed i was just seeking some advice

thanks anyway

hi, your fasting levels are fine, as others have already said the only way to be sure of diagnosis is too see your doctor.

However depending on the type of food (high carbs generally) and it's fat content you may find that your levels may well be higher at hour 3. The amount of fat present in a meal can delay your spike beyond the normal 2hr re-test
