As a type 2 it is good to keep carbs down but I'm sure you already know this. If you want to lose weight you will also need to keep the total daily kilojoules underneath your daily requirement from all food sources. If you simply replace the carbs with something from somewhere else with the same kj then sorry, you will not lose weight.
For example, when diagnosed I was 106kg. According to my BMI, age, sex and activity I require 12000 kj per day of energy. 1kg of fat contains 36000 kj of energy. If I reduce my daily intake to 11000 kj I will lose 1 kg in 36 days. I altered my intake to 8500 kj per day and am now 94 kg. This has taken several months with Xmas in the way. You will need to find out exactly how many kj you eat per day from all foods. Then you need to work out how much you need. Set a target for what you want to lose and a time period. Adjust your kj intake accordingly. Then you can adjust your carbs / fats / protein ratios as needed according to your type 2 condition but stay within the kj target.
I know it sounds hard. It is at first but you will be surprised how quickly you can get used to it. I wouldn't be surprised if there is even the tools on this web resource to do all of this or similar.
Hope you find what works soon but the above worked a treat for me.
