Old lancet pricked finger

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew about the safety of an old lancet pricking a finger? I recently was clearing under my bed and grabbed a small pile of rubbish, inside was an old used lancet (my own use) which could have been there for months. I drew a tiny bit of blood when I squeezed my finger to see if it had punctured, and I washed it well with soap. Does anyone know if this poses an issue at all?

Thanks.

Similar risk as pricking your finger on a thorn, so minimal.

As a retired nurse, we were advised to squeeze a needle stick and make it bleed and wash in soap and water. So you’ve done that. It’s your own needle so you have no risk of transmitted diseases.

@Markomit - I'd think you're more likely to have bruised yourself a little grasping the old lancet and puncturing the skin, rather than pick up an infection.

Exactly, I change it when I feel it. I use accu-check soft clix (can be purchased separately) which is really the most soft lancet.
