OMG!! Calories really do count for me! Overnight weight gain

Went to a friends for dinner last night - he is a Michelin star chef so was looking forward - had starter mixed fish chowder swerved the bread, lamb Henry with wilted greens no Rosemary mash for me - he knows me and hubby count carbs but there was more than us there so can't force our lifestyle in everyone but it was very easy to avoid carbs - gave in on the pudding as I really had to try his ice cream - olive oil, black pepper and sea salt ice cream OMG! as a person who eats sweet stuff about 4 times a year the ice cream was just sublime and even though it had sugar it was a very small amount - the whole meal was just wonderful 2 glasses of wine - a gazillion calories and about 25g carb

Got up this morning and weighed myself - 41/2lb on over night!! 2 weeks work down the drain! But lesson learned - back to the 1200 cals today hopefully can undue some of the damage
 
Sounds wonderful; would your friend share the ice cream recipe, sounds lovely and I would kill for some ice cream?

Glad you had a great evening, a few days abstinence should sort the extra pound out.

I doubt it - you know how precious chefs can be! Lol there is recipes on line though - as to a few days abstinence well the last 5 years of abstinence has been a way of life - I stopped losing weight on lower carb no calorie counting after my first 3 stone so have been on 1200 - 1300 cals a day since - it works but it's slow - also today I have a real gripey tummy so was all a but too rich but wonderful

5 years on and off with breaks for high days and holidays - it's the only way my weight stays stable but have never put so much on in one go - it's a lifestyle for me not a diet so it's not really hard I eat really well and enjoy it
 
You know it's impossible to gain that much fat in a night. It's water, stored glycogen or inflammation from a possible food intolerance. Within 3 days resuming your normal diet you should be right back to where you started. It's good to have a hormesis once in awhile to throw your body off.
I tend to eat about 1000 cals a day and yes a pig fest even on my normal foods will increase my weight for a few days. Sometimes I just need a gorge. Glad it doesn't happen often....
 
I too doubt this will be true weight gain. Yes, you weigh more, but I doubt it is fat.

It'll be fine,....... I hope!!
 
This happens every time I drink alcohol. It's usually vgone within 48 hours.
 
I agree that it will be fluid gain, not fat.
Happens to me if I eat any grains.

It is why I weigh rarely, and then weigh several mornings in a row, and take the average. My weight can vary by anywhere from 2-7 lbs within 24hrs, depending on what I have eaten and drunk.

If you want to shed the excess weight fast, drinking masses of water, a sauna or sweatroom will help. :)
 
I know you are all right - it's just that I was a bit miffed as every pound off is taking weeks probably because I have lost so much weight - it was a lot of dairy for me too as I rarely eat dairy - @Brunneria I agree I only used to weigh myself once a month but at the moment I am in a different mindset and weighing myself daily to keep myself on track - it's my touchstone so to speak - will let you all know how I go this next few days
 
Same thing happened to me on Saturday, though perhaps not quite as gourmet food was involved. It was Son's 17th and we took a bunch of family out for a meal - lovely Spanish food, and had a single scoop of ice-cream (as we were out in the day we also had soup and a roll for lunch). Was a kilo heavier the next day. But as of this morning, i.e. 4 days later, that's now gone.
 
2lb of the gain gone but the other 21/2 hanging around like a bad smell!
