Omnipod User Feedback & Suggestions.

Hi fellow pumpers.
I'm currently writing an essay for my Computer Science degree, and am basing it on the Omnipod. I am basing my essay on developing/improving the exisiting product in any way possible.

It would be very beneficial for me to gather feedback from fellow users, and I'd be grateful is you could share any suggestions you may have on making the Omnipod a better device.

TBH I can't think of any at the moment @Dane, overall I'm extremely pleased with the Omnipod Pump.

A few months back I was chatting to someone who also uses the Omnipod Pump, they were saying they had to change the Pod every two days due to the insulin reservoir only holding 200 units, perhaps they should develop two types of Pods to hold 200 & 300 units so that high insulin users can go the full 3 days.
 
have been using omnipod for 6 weeks now and I am pleased with it-- however i would like to see a bit more flexibility in I;C ratios, they are currently whole numbers IE : 1 to 4 or 1 to 5 etc etc
if they could be tweaked to provide a .1 of a carb that could help fine tune just that bit more.
 
Having trialled the Omnipod for few months the biggest issue for me is lack of pump control (without handset), understanding that the way the pump is designed its hard to get control on the pump itself but maybe a simple smaller handset that just delivers bolus's would be good, or even better make it part of the pump - so you don't need to always carry around such a large remote.

Some of us on CGM's don't always need to use the blood testing part.

Not sure what you mean Paul, the pump will deliver insulin in whatever increments you tell it to deliver in accordance with your I:C ratio, if you go to Settings and then select System Setup, from there you select Bolus/basal/calcs and then select Bolus Increment, it then gives you the choice of delivering the bolus in 0.05u, 0.10u,0.50 & 1.00u increments.

An example is I can bolus anywhere between 4.65 - 5.45 for my breakfast over a average week, surely that is fine tuning enough or I'm I misunderstanding what your trying to say?

i actually mean the I:C ratio -- mine vary during the day and when on MDI i usually worked on 1u insulin to 4.3 carbs at brekkie
i can only set the pump to 1 to 4 or 1 to 5

so using my numbers above and a 20 carb breakfast
and assuming a pre meal of 5.5 ( so no correction added or subtracted )

on 1 to 4 it will deliver 5 units , on a 1 to 5 it will deliver 4 units
if it had the capability to deliver on a 1 to 4.3 it would deliver 4.65 units

That is very precise, no it won't allow you to do that, do any of the pumps I wonder?
 
being totally honest I don't know but as the topic was about tweaks to pumps it seemed a great place to voice it.
Even I am not 100% sure how much difference it could make

It is just that currently with all my settings factored into the pump it often suggests very small correction boluses of 0.15 or 0.35 of a unit -- so the PDM has the technology to deliver those small amounts

Hi all,

I greatly appreciate your feedback.

However the feedback I was looking for was aimed more at the limitations of the PDM. The aim of my project for University was to research the development of an application to use as an alternative to the PDM e.g. control the pump via a mobile phone application. Of course I understand you would still need your PDM for blood readings.

Can any of you suggest any features you wish the PDM could do, which could then be considered for a future upgrade?

Hey I've been on this for two years. These are my wishes; pump alert ( which it doesn't always do" when there is a fault with delivery or site has come out. I wish the pump like Medtronic paradigm does would tell you how much insulin there is currently in the body. Third is a future hope of c g m combination. I personally can't think of anything worse than the pump being linked to my phone due to lifestyle. Hope it helps faye

My Medtronic Paradigm does have the Active Insulin feature but it is a bit hard to find. You have to go to Bolus-Use bolus wizard. Then put in your blood sugar, then any carbs you are about to eat (zero if you prefer). Press Enter, then (important bit here!), scroll DOWN on the next screen and you will see "Active insulin." It tells you how many units and tenths of a unit you have on board.

@RuthW, the Omnipod tells you on the main screen how much IOB you have.
 
Iob? I'm a wee poorly today so my heads clogged so it could be me not fully being able to think what your I ob
 
I've been on an Omnipod since March and love the freedom and my control is so much better. But the PDM lighting could use an overhaul. In bright sunlight the screen display is invisible and at 3am it's blindingly bright, making blood testing virtually impossible without turning a light on.
The whole menu system and rubber buttons are also very clunky when compared to smart phone technology, but that's a symptom of the length of time medical product approval takes.
I'd like more control over all the alarms. I don't need an hourly reminder I'm on a temporary programme!
I'd also like to zoom in to the graphs and see the tagged information on the PDM rather than having to boot up my pooter and down load the information. It's not Android compatable either.
Hope that's all good info for your thesis.
