On the right road?

I was diagnosed prediabetic mid January. Hba1c was 42. At 5'3" and 141lbs I was a little overweight but maybe one of the TOFI type. Anyway have read this site from beginning to end and have been so inspired by all of your experiences and helpful advice. I immediately went LCHF and gave lost 7lbs in a little over 2 weeks and my fasting sugar level this morning was 5.6 - not there yet but on the right road? I also have high blood pressure and am currently taking 2mg per day of Lacidipine (calcium channel blocker). I've started swimming a couple of times a week and on the other days take a brisk walk. I'm going to join the local gym(I hate gyms) to try & increase my cardio. I think I can get a grip on and maintain the eating but just wondered how long it took folks out there to see a reduction in their blood pressure readings......thanks and have a good day all

Hi Yorkietoo
When I was diagnosed Type 2, I was obese and had high blood pressure despite being on two BP meds. On diagnosis I immediately went low carb. After four months my HbA1c and BP were normal, also I had lost over 20kgs. This enabled me to stop one of my BP meds. Of course everyone is different, but well done on tackling your health issues and I wish you well.

Thank you @Rachox. I get that no one size fits all but good to know it can be improved along with the diabetes. Congratulations to you for 'sticking with it' and getting healthy

Hi Yorkie, sounds like you have made a great start there and are already seeing results. Excellent!

Just a thought; you say you hate the gym. In which case it is likely you may not stick with going, and it may be better to do something you enjoy. Like for instance, dancing? Weight training? Football? Riding a bike? Tennis? Or just more swimming!

Too true@BoSoBo I've been an off and on gym bunny for a lot of my 66 years.......sooo boring. Lost my doggy 4 months back and have been full time carer for my mum for the last 2 years so no meaningful exercise for a while. Will get out on my bike come spring and my husband is semi retiring soon so tennis is on the cards. Have done Zumba and other dancy classes at my previous gym and enjoyed those so that might be the way to go. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply - when I have more to say about my new way of eating etc I hope to be able to help others along the way

Thanks BoSoBo - Yes he was 15 so a good age but has left a gaping hole in our lives. We will have another dog, either a puppy or another rescue then I can add dog walking to my list
