Online Carbohydrate Counting Resources

Messages

Does anyone know of any online carbohydrate counting resources - specifically for helping someone calculate how much carbohydrate there is in a food e.g. something like carbs and cals online? I've found the list of carbohydrate foods that goes with the carbs count booklet from Diabetes UK.

This is for someone with limited vision that has specialist software to help them on the computer.

Thanks

If you go to Google and type 'Carbs in xxxxxx' you usually get a nutrition panel on the right.

If you search online, remember if it's American you need to subtract the fibre content from the total carbs.

Why is that the case for the US and not the UK?

No Idea, In the UK they give you the figure of the net carbs, with the fibre already subtracted, but in the US it's the total carbs and as fibre isn't digested it doesn't count. Only found out as after reading 'Think Like a Pancreas' I started subtracting the fibre and then wondered why my blood sugar went up.......

I read that in think like a pancreas also, but like the sheep that I am I noticed no one else is doing it so I blindly followed!

At least you can tell the difference on labels and the internet by the difference in spelling (fibre, UK fiber US)
They also often give the nutritional info per serving rather than per 100g . They use serving size on labels too, so it's as well to be aware; Sometimes products labelled in the US are sold in the UK (I've seen low carb products, nuts and seeds )
On one forum people were extolling the properties of a new cracker. It had, they said, more fibre than carbs. A truly miracle product with a negative net carb value. Sadly for them it was a cracker made and labelled in Sweden with the fibre already deducted and listed separately.
