Hello,

I am 24 and I'm newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Although I hass been (unrecognised) transfered into a hospital with ketoacidosis when 21 and have gradualing problems about 1-2 years before I can remeber problems like tiredness, apathy or some kind of depression since my 14.
Is that possible? What is usuall onset period for T1D?
Many thanks!

I googled up that the T1D appears around this age in common, but I wonder if can be present in some form before it fully blow up (onset) as it did in my 20s.
Thanks!

If I'm understanding your question correctly, it sounds like you're asking about what is referred to as "Type 1.5." While I think it's silly term, it's used to describe situations where people lose their natural insulin production over a slower period of time. In some cases, that period of time can last 5+ years.

I find it very interesting that you had ketoacidosis three years ago, yet weren't diagnosed with diabetes until now. What did they say it was caused by?

With all that said, I think just about every 14 year old kid has issues with feeling tired, apathetic, and emotional. You do a lot of growing up (mentally and physically) in your late teenage years so I think some of that is normal.
Edit- for me, I started experiencing symptoms of T1D about 6 months before I was diagnosed at the end of 2015 at the age of 27

T1 can come on at any rate depending on the degree of anti-body attack, so many would be having some diabetic symptoms before a DKA diagnosis, but as for many diabetics these might go unnoticed as high blood sugar may cause very few symptoms until very high.

Thank you for your reply. It is as much wonder to me as to you. It was holiday time at New Year's Eve. They said nothing at all but just keep asking about drugs. I "went" home that night. I had had food-related problems, I were on strick diet and have no food for 2 days that time for I feeled bad. They made very basic blood test with normal glukose level of 7.1. Futher I went to see my doctor, she made me some general test with low cholestestore, kalium, natrium and some anti-infects, which does not troubled me. I also have elevated liver test and that was the point where alk ended. I gradually excluded all the food which I observed foes not make me feel good and end up with very low carb and no sugar diet, still having problems like thirstidness, polyuria, blurred vision, stimulation, dry skin, hunger that comes with food, massive weight lose (40kg-50%) and so on. I became to eat a bit more lately and the problem become gradualing. I have paid some tests I find out low C-peptide alongside with high glucose level (I also bought glucometer I measure e.g. 8 at 3 hours in the morning with no sugar and low carb duet). By time pass I again end up in the hospital after hypoglykemia (2.7 adrer high dnergy breakfast).

I hope my previous post is readable. Please, plese let me know if better formulation is required.
I also would like to ask if you have experienced hypoglycemic after digesting large amounts of fats/oils (a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, rapeseed or lein, ...). I also wonder wheter are common stages of appearent hypo and hyper after begining of insulinmatic care with relative normal levels of blood glucose.
Thanks a lot a d happy New year!
