Hey guys,

I am awaiting my Libre starter pack (literally due in half an hour). I also have an operation book in for next Thursday, 8 days away..

Does any one know if I am able to keep the sensor on during the operation? The operation is a discectomy. If I can't I'll have to wait another 8 days to wear it! The wait will be unbearable lol.

I had a procedure under anesthetic about 4 weeks ago and was able to wear my libre ( all the staff were amazed as they had never seen one )

get in touch with your pre-op team to discuss immediately to ensure your ability to wear it for your Op
if you don't they may insist you remove it if the staff on the day know nothing about it.

my libre was written up in my pre-op notes .

hope this all makes sense

all the best !!!

As suggested by himtoo, do get in touch with your pre-op team and check. I have read of people keeping their sensors in place for hospitalization and operations and the staff have found it extremely useful to scan during the operation.

A lot may depend on what position you may be put in for your operation. If you are to be on your side for the operation, you may risk lying on your sensor, in which case it won't take any readings while being covered/pressure on it. However, it's possible you will be laid on your front during the operation, in which case your sensor should be OK.

It could also be worthwhile checking which arm they will need to monitor your blood pressure during your operation so you can ensure the sensor is on the other arm (don't take blood pressure on same arm as sensor as it could mess the sensor up due to the pressure caused)

I hope you find this helpful. Good luck with your operation and hope you have an uneventful recovery. :)
