Very odd I know BUT there is a story to share from my recent hospital stay.

Apparently my BS was checked the morning of my operation and whilst I was coming round from the anaesthetic later in the day.

In the morning I was 5.2 (I was nil by mouth at this stage pre-op) and as I was coming round from the anaesthesia just around 4/5pm time I was checked by a nurse and was 6.5 (post-op) is this a strange occurrence? Anyone had anything similar?

What do think is strange about this?

There are many things which affect our BG not just food. For example, stress, alcohol, exercise (or lack of it), pain, drugs, ...
An operation is likely to be pretty traumatic on your body so I am not surprised you saw a rise in your BG.
I do not know what impact the anaesthetic drugs have on your BG either

You got off lightly! I had a fasting reading of 5.2 on the day of my operation last week, followed by a 7.6 in recovery! As @helensaramay says, illness and stress can still raise your blood sugars even if you’re NBM.

You may have been on a drip in the theater, and it could contain sucrose. i had that happen when I had my kidney stones removed.
