Im finding this type2 very difficult. Such terrible stomarch pains and full of gas. Im opting to buy a cookery book. I have over 6stone to lose and blood pressure and cholestrol to reduce thats without the diabetes to control. I just cant cope. Feeling so low

hi, are you taking metformin? its also known as metfartin im afraid, im lucky enough to enjoy a good trump lol (much to the wife and kids displeasure lol) I have bought many low carb cookery books and apart from a few recipes ive never really got on with them, many are from America and the ingredients are a pain, ive had a lot more success finding recipes from this forum and the net in general, searching WhitbyJets posts are awesome and ewelina has a great blog http://www.diabeticgoodbaking.com/ and there are others clare also has some great recipes (many others too numerous to mention sorry) have a look in the recipe thread, but also I just put for example "low carb pizza" in google, it takes a bit of trawling threw the ones that either are high carb lol, taste horrible or don't have easy to get ingredients but you can find really good ones, I have my own cook book now I write down the ones that work out right, I have certain favourites for example http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/desser ... aroons.htm I can make these in 10 minutes they are proper easy only take 15 minutes to cook and give me an almost instant sweet (well not really) treat fix, I use this when fancying falling off the wagon, I bought the wife some malteasers yesterday because ive learnt when she needs chocolate lol and knocked up a batch of macaroons and happily munched a few while she munched her chocolate.

it is very difficult :( we all go through this, I wished there was a magical answer to make this go away but we just have to try and keep our chins up and look for the positive things and cling on to them, don't expect to be ok all the time, a favourite song lyric springs to mind when im low and for some weird reason it helps me "its ok not to be ok" all you can do is your best, the low feelings will pass I promise, then be back again, I suppose the trick is to try and dwell on the times we are feeling ok about things, and I know its tired but there is always worse off people around, diabetes does suck but there is definatly a lot worse things and with some struggling this hopefully is as bad as things get.

why not find a good looking recipe today on the net go to the shop buy the ingredients and cheer yourself up by spending a few hours playing with it and see how good it tastes, I recommend dessert recipe hehe there are hundreds out there, actually try this if you like http://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/2010/0 ... -free.html its a favourite of the whole family, its kinda tricky to make and I leave out the cocoa powder (you wont need it)

best wishes

Do you know its not about the fancy foods or cakes. I can do without them its about everday eating breakfast lunch and tea. About being able to put something varied and nutricious on my plate. There is only me and i feel sometimes i just cant be bothered because of this tiredness i just use to grab something easy which looking back was full of carbs. No wonder i put on so much weight.

i kinda know what you mean, we must be able to find 7 days worth of food you like and fits the criteria then repeat them each week on the same days so its easier to plan for, then maybee look for alternatives as you go along, start with brekkie, do you like yogurt? natural greek yogurts are very different if you have tried a brand that you didnt like there are other brands completely different tasting, this is awesome because you can just scoop out what you want and then add a multitude of different stuff to make it varied for example, i have the fage total yogurts i love this one but hate others yeo valley for one, so i have my scoops and then add blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, milled flax seed and any combination of nuts, sometimes just having one thing sometimes having a few different variations so brekkie dosent get boring, all this stuff is easy for one, no one else in my house eats the same, if you dont like yogurts dissect a full english and play with the ingredients, bacon today, tommorow scrambled egg with bacon, sausages and mushrooms the next day and so on, im sorry im not trying to teach you to suck eggs (excuse the pun) im just saying you can use the same ingredients for different stuff. lunch well ive learnt there sure is more than one way to make a salad, theres a zillion different dressings, add olives, jalapeno peppers, all sorts of other peppers in fact, different onions, gerkins and many more as well as the normal salads you can have the same ingredients in the cupboard yet have loads of completely different salads each lunch time, thats without considering the different meats and cheeses these can be cold or try italian sausages heated up under the grill then sprinkled with grated cheese, try to make it fun and experimental. dinner chicken! i cant even count how many different ways to cook chicken, stir frying is my favourite, you can add some of the ingredients from the other meals we already talked about, just chuck it all in i tend you use the oldest stuff first.... ok im going on im sorry im just trying to say it dosent have to be fancy with daft ingredients, it can be simple, healthy and easy, thats why i think the 7 day plan is good because it wont take alot of planning and you can change it when you want to, either all of the plan or just the days your bored with, my mum soon to be 70 is alone after dad dieing a few years ago and she will eat microwave dinners everyday and then snack, she used to cook all our meals and now cant be bothered, she wont make any effort for herself but if she were looking after us or my dad she would, its hard to motivate yourself, so keep it simple i suppose, anyway im going on again... im speaking off the top of my head so feel free to look at me like im weird and probly not making much sense lol

best wishes

Andy
