Having signed the petition, but objected strongly about stereotyping T2's on the email addresses supplied, I have now received an acknowledgment from 10 Downing Street. In it they state: - "YOU MAY WISH TO BE AWARE THAT FOLLOWING DISCUSSIONS WITH D.U.K., THE DEPT. OF HEALTH HAVE DECIDED TO MODIFY THE CHANGE4LIFE ADVERTISING MATERIALS TO MAKE CLEAR THAT OBESITY LEADS TO TYPE 2 DIABETES.
So now we are going to be stereotyped even more with the blessing of D.U.K. Surely they of all people should know that there are other factors involved in T2 diagnosis.

Well sometimes we wonder!!Just what do they know?!As a stereotypical type 2 it doesn't bother me but I can imagine that for many on here ,tarred with the same brush ,it must be really annoying.Our oft time quoted,' we are all different' should also be quoted as regards the causes of type 2 but I suppose it's so much easier just to shove us all in the same pigeon-hole.Much tidier and neater and the Hell with the truth and the feelings of all those frustrated and maligned type 2's out there.

Hi Trinkwasser, perhaps you are right about the Gov wishing this unintentioned divide between us? I presumed they were just ignorant & too lazy to have a medical person check it?

Zing!

Yes I strongly suspect they employed psychologists and trained marketing people to target the campaign but forgot to actually get any up to date medical or dietary opinions.

Oh noooooooooo!!! STUPID DUK/DoH!!! This wasn't supposed to happen! So now all Type2's are accused of being lazy sods?! I'm glad they've listened, but they're either stupid or they really enjoy inflaming the nation. I really think a Type2 should start another petition- get the wording changed AGAIN to ".....can be a factor in developing some forms of Type2 Diabetes, some Heart Diseases, & may increase the risk of some Cancers" ??? For my son's sake I am glad they've taken note, but I don't think anyone wants our victory resulting in all Type2's being labelled wrongly either. HELP!!!!

Hi wkdweewitch,
Like you, I am glad that children with Type 1 have been vindicated as that was the purpose behind the petition. It has done nothing for Type 2's and we still need to educate children about Type 1 as to a child, diabetes is diabetes.

Excellent work! Serves the fat buggers right I say! Can't we get big sticks to actually beat them with on the NHS, after all every little bit helps?

Tell that to the skinny diabetics and the fat people in my family who have better BP and lipids than the rest of us
<sigh>

Watching TV ads rots the brain

Writing TV ads rots the brain more

NOW WHO'S GOING TO DRAFT THE NEW PETITION IN DEFENCE OF T2s .... :?:

I can't - I'm just off out to play tennis - & I did play before I was diagnosed.

So Sir Steve Redgrave, the ultimate healthy athlete, is not a role model for the youth of today because he is a diabetic?
Just what do these people know?
