Hi All

Last night i went to bed and was awoken about 40 mins later with a racing heart. Was very uncomfortable, chest felt bruised after a while, with pains in back as well. Lasted just short of 2 hours, before dissapearing as promptly as it came. Being cold and laying on my side were only things that helped/

Really scared me.

I have been taking 4 x 500 mg Metformin, 1 x 40mg Gliclazide and 1 x 2.5mg Rampiril (for high blood pressure) for approx 3 weeks.

I have had the odd occasion of palps before when stressed, but they normally dont last more than a minute.

I am awaiting telcon with GO, just wondered if anyone had experience of same issues.....

Today I had my dose of Gliclazide reduced from 160mg to 40mg as I was getting really bad chest pain and palpitations, The consultant advised me to take the 40mg in two doses to see how I get on, they really do bring your sugar levels down but the side effects are awful,
She also put me on Diagamet XL 2000mg instead of the standard Metformin so hopefully no side effects at all from now on, I hope you feel better soon x

Had conversation with GP yesterday - he is adamant that it is unlikely to be a side effect of the metformin, gliclazide or Ramipril.

he said it is more likely to be a small electrical wiring fault in my heart like Tony Blair had.

next time i get them have to go to A & E for an ECG.

I still think its the medication :)
 
Lol Simon , Best to get checked out for sure but it clearly states in the side effects sheets about chest pain and palpitations ! I'm sure from reading posts on here that some GP's haven't a clue about what they're prescribing . Good Luck

Hi Simon, my name is Jim, ive spent a few years reflecting on my experiences and have reached some shocking conclusions.
I won't give you all the details here but having been through tachycardia and diabetes type ii diagnosis, we may have certain things in common. i lost my mum in 2006 and started a law degree in Feb 2008. [PLEASE NOTE THE BRAIN CANNOT DISTINGUISH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD AND BAD STRESS] I had tachycardia at the start of the first course. this was utterly dismissed as STRESS. One year later in Feb 2009 at the start of the second course, i again had tachycardia but a whole heap of other symptoms including diabetes typeii diagnosis.
Within 6 months many of the symptoms disappeared including the high sugars!!! 4 years on every test has shown my sugars to be normal.
Another year passed. in Feb 2010 i collapsed. i was totally fatigued, memory and cognition were devastated. I WAS TOLD BY MY GP 'YOU ARE DEPRESSED'!!!!!!! I FELL OF THE CHAIR LAUGHING....

Did you know that MOST folk who are labelled DEPRESSED have a poorly regulated endocrine system, some are in high cortisol some in low cortisol. I BELIEVE I PASSED THROUGH HIGH CORTISOL AND COLAPSED INTO LOW CORTISOL OVER A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS... A TRULY HORRIFIC PROCESS...
This, i assert is the cause of many of the symptoms of depression. A disorder so much more damaging than the name suggests: stress being the starting point.
if I knew then what I know now, I would go to my GP and ask kindly for a "24 hour urinary cortisol test ". this will show if you are in HIGH CORTISOL.... also called HYPERCORTISOLEMIA.
Are you regularly feeling stressed? if so this could be a cause OR A SYMPTOM of high cortisol.
i was told by an eminent professor that stress induced high cortisol can lead to a false diabetes ii diagnosis where you have no symptoms aside from high sugars.
WHAT IM SAYING IS HIGH CORTISOL CAUSES HIGH BLOOD SUGAR. IF A DIABETES TEST IS DONE DURING HIGH CORTISOL IT WILL GIVE A POSITIVE RESULT. THIS IS ALSO WHY FOLK SPEAK OF DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING SUGARS DURING STRESSFUL EVENTS.
If you choose to pursue this please post your experience, this is such a serious and important issue.

ummm interesting that l am undergoing tests for tachycardia. After the last 3+ years of family deaths, mum and psych hospitals, hospital hospitals useless drs/psychiatrist/nurses and lots of other things the cardio agrees it is likely stress, and unfitness and out of control type 2. Since l was told diabetic and got myself under control it has vastly improved.

I thought l had menopause so ignored symptoms longest tachycardia l have had has been around 6 hours, now very short term but this has got me thinking so once l am passed by cardio l may look at this in further detail but will give it a few months to settle see how l go. as things have settled down so much compared to the amount of tachy l did have. Memory is bad but has been since Brian passed and others who have lost husbands or wives and l am told children often have this, also bad at putting things into a time line again a by product. If all seems to continue in several months l shall go this route but will update many thanks for the heads up. Thanks Undeserving Poor

I too find this very interesting I believe stress caused my diabetes probably wrong however I've had many ailments put down to stress unfortunately have had many difficult times in the past some so bad I could not voice them to my gp he kind of guessed some and was very very kind to me I also have had pounding heart when I go to bed have been checked in the past I also experience the flashing lights in my head and for gods sake exploding head syndrome bedtime can e such fun I also catch my breath and feel like I stop breathing the exploding head syndrome my gp had never heard of but it is caused by extreme stress to other people I may appear to cope well but it comes out in other ways I don't want to speak to soon but life is calmer now I can only hope it carries on my new gps have me down as a nutter so reluctant to see them about these things but maybe will ask about the cortisol thing thank youthank you
