I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and since my diagnosis I have read that anyone who is 50 plus and new diabetic should be considered has having possible pancreatic cancer!
This has totally knocked the stuffing out of me because I am 50 and a newbie.
is there any truth in this?
Thanks

I was diagnosed aged 58. I have read that 30-50 years ago T2 was considered a disease of the over 65s, times have changed and even young people are being diagnosed these days.
I have not read/heard that one is more likely to have developed pancreatic cancer leading to T2 simply because one has passed the 50yo mark.

This is a paragraph from the report
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3932318/

The relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer is complex. Diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance is present in more than 2/3rd of pancreatic cancer patients. Epidemiological studies have consistently shown a modest increase in the risk of pancreatic cancer in type 2 diabetes,

We also have an increased risk of Heart ,liver, kidney and eye problems. I try not to worry about what might be and concentrate on what I can control, my diet and glucose levels.

And let's face it, the more we age, Diabetic or not, the more problems arise.

Ok thanks for your replies. Im newly diagnosed and reading this shocked me a bit.

If you are that worried @Marcus1234 make an appointment with the doctor. Please remember that just because there is an association between diseases it does not mean we have them all.

Thanks. It just shocked me. Didnt think the 2 would be linked. Ive felt rubbish health wise since diagnosis, nauseas, aching, extreme fatigue. Dont know how much is phsycological and how much is real.

It is both. Once you get a handle on things you will feel better all round.
