Did anyone have a go this week?

i did it in 26.51 this weeks excuse is the mud hehe

Yep, I did a 24:50. I had legs like lead all the way round. I still enjoyed it but I did feel tired before I even set off.

Fantastic atmosphere and there is no pressure on you (apart from yourself) to be fast. Such a mixed bunch as well. Whole families to people just in the area for work or visiting relatives

I think the tiredness was probably the grand kids having me swimming and taking them on the water slides constantly for a couple of hours. Amina in particular had me up the steps to the tallest slide without even a stop for breath. I ain't complaining though it was good fun :D but were do kids find the energy :)

I have even entered a 10k on the 17th.

awesome :) i did 14.5 miles today just got back, im shattered but im a mile closer to the marathon so happy :) i tried to stop to wait for a car at the road at 13 miles but i couldnt stop, my legs went like jelly and i just kind of jellied across in front of the car, i remember catching a glance at the ladies face i have no idea what she thought, im sure it would have looked funny had she not been doing an amazing job of stopping before she hit me, im going to remember that lesson at roads lol

Eek be careful there mate. I tested the breaking strain of a windscreen from the outside with my head a long time ago. I was lucky and won.

I am slowly building the mileage up but not much as I have no intention of doing a marathon again. 29 years since the last one and despite my good lady trying to convince me it would be nice to do the Manchester one next year as it would be 30 years since i last did it....... Seriously trying not to get into that idea.

I am enjoying running again so I am just going to take things steady and enjoy it.

cmon do it!!!! lol, i cant wait i wished it was next week :) although im aching top to bottom now, i went out and cut the wet grass to try and keep loose but it hasnt worked, ive found signing up for the marathon and now having some sponsorship has really focused me on getting out there :) that would be cool doing them 30 years apart! im with the missus :)

It was getting rid of the fags and loosing a bit of weight that had me going to the GP to discuss binning the statins that ended up in me being told that I had Diabetes ( I was already pretty certain but denying it).

I miss a ciggy sometimes but he benefits far outweigh the stink sticks pleasures.

You have no idea how tempting doing the Manchester is :) .

Not happening though

You guys make me feel slow with 28:23 this week, can I use my daughter and poor condition for the buggy as an excuse?? Surprised we were let lose on the summer cause due to the amount of mud felt more like a cross country run.

HbA1c 53mmol/mol 14/8/13

agreed :) it always amazes how you run with buggies, happy to have another park runner :) :)

I didn't think it was to bad considering my pb with the buggy is 27.22 in perfect weather conditions.
It will be nice to see what my times are without the buggy when i've got my pump fully sorted out, as i was 4-5 mins faster when injecting.

I will be happy with under 24.

My local parkrun at Huddersfield is on good wide tarmac paths so very buggy friendly.

Our winter course at eastbourne is wide tarmac and about 1-2mins faster than the summer course so it will be nice to turn up with out the buggy and my barcode for the winter course (yet to do that).
The summer course is nice when it's not been raining to hard in the week.
If i had the time would love to go to a different one just to try it out.

I am aged 67 years and in April I started to have a run of a few hundred yards. My sugar levels were rather high could have been the doughnuts etc and the local medical staff were getting concerned as was I as my finger pricking was giving 10-15 readings. I am a type 2 diabetic and have been since i was about 50years. I stayed on a a good diet for the first 5 years a not so good diet for another 5 years and then ate freely since and for the last three years have been on max dose metformin.

I quite enjoyed the running and pretty soon found out I could run half a mile. I have always been pretty fit, a bit of a sportsman, cricket and golf but never an athlete.

hb tests indicated I should be starting on insulin. I said no! I restarted my good diet. No more sweets, biscuits cakes. You can't avoid sugar completely but you can look at the packets and decide good or bad.

I bought my first pair of running shoes, followed by a pair of shorts and a running shirt. I could now run a mile! My diabetic nurse gave me more blood tests and said that there was a slight improvement with my Hb but again suggested insulin. I said NO!

More good diet the next few months and more running. I lost a stone in weight and finger pricking readings were now down to below 10. I was persuaded to enter a 4k downhill local race and to join a running club. They took me out and I did a 7 mile run, yes 7 miles, I could not believe it myself.

I then entered a 10k race at Bournemouth and came 217th out of nearly 1200 runners. I was flabbergasted!

This was followed up by the Weymouth park run which had just started. I held my age group record for the first 8 weeks. What a wonderful gathering the park runs are. Some are brilliant runners, some like me just try very hard and others are courageous in battling around. The emphasis is on the word run and not the word race but I just love the stats that are produced that enable you to compare your standard with others your age.

More blood tests. WOW! doctors dead happy with the results and figures are normal 48% if i remember or understand the measurements. My finger pricking is now in the range of 5.5 - 8

A runner will tell you that to lose weight it is 30% exercise but 70% diet. If the whole population followed this rule we would be a healthy group.

Can't wait for my next run, pity is I am not playing so much golf but that is another story!
