Sorry to hear about the eye problems and I hope that the cellulitis clears up. Perhaps if you aren't having further eye surgery just now there will be a chance for recovery and adjusting to the sight loss.
I adjusted to mine which mainly amounts to being off road but I was angry at my dependence on my husband first so allow yourself that anger! It isn't a small thing and it wasn't your fault that it happened and that the government decided to close down the non covid health service.
Have you heard back from Swansea DVLA yet? Not sure if you are off the road for good but there are advantages to that situation (never having to be the designated driver). I also am grateful for the existence of Audible which had this happened to me 15 years ago would mean I missed out on great books etc.
Best of luck.
Thank you for your kind thoughts.
I have been issued with a driving licence following an eye test. Apparently driving is legal even with restricted vision in one eye.
I only drive to places I know locally and during daylight.
You are right, it is a case of getting used to the restricted sight and I have full vision in my right eye so it compensates.
It’s just annoying that it could have been avoided if I’d had the first operation in time.
I suppose after living with type 1 for 50 years I should be grateful that I don’t have more debilitating complications.
It also annoys me that people automatically assume the eye problem is down to my diabetes. The bleed happened when I took a bad fall onto my head which subsequently resulted in the detached retina.
Things happen and it’s a case of acceptance that nothing could be done to change it.
