what would be a typical days food for your partner.....?......

there's obviously cheaper alternatives to most items in a grocery list, but its all about the effect on the blood sugars.....lower GI foods that have a little/slow effect on the blood sugar are best......

no really helpful advice, sorry.....

getting a blood sugar meter is a good idea, they can be obtained free usually, but some struggle getting the test strips on prescription....

So sorry that you are both have such a rough time, give us some ideas about what food you are eating, then some of the lovely people on here can help to give advice on food. xx

I think from your post your are saying that you would like to eat more healthily but find it hard on a restricted income? Budgeting isn't really difficult but it is something that needs to be kept up and sometimes it's surprising how much you can save. We only shop once a fortnight because our nearest town is a ways off. I make a menu for the fortnight and only buy what I need to make those meals plus all the other stuff like washing powder and all that. It takes a bit of time but once done it's done. With kids, it's easy to to go overboard I reckon, I can just about remember that. If you can, shop without the kids in the evenings, there are good bargains to be had then like bread they want to get rid of. :)

A budgeting advisory service is probably available in your area, it might be worthwhile getting in touch with them. I know that a good diet will help with the moods a lot! I know when I am off track my moods are rotten and I feel sluggish and tired too.

Hang in there Lea, it's always hard when you are in the middle of it but I have found that planning is the key to almost everything really. Make a plan and stick to it.....you can do it! ;)

hi everyone thnx so much for your replys, basically this is what we have done he was eating loads of **** and not listening when i said it would really damage him so ive kinda like took over and said that from now on theres no more junk like sweets chocs cakes etc like all sugar and to stop drinkin the fizzy drinks which he has, what i was asking is wen i do the shopping do i just get the lower fat one like butter for example and change from blue top milk to green? also hes gt a meter :) xxx

As far as drinks are concerned as long as he drinks things like no added sugar and diet version die diet coke, coke zero, or Pepsi max or sugar free, he should be fine however there are the sweeteners in them and that could cause other problems. Going green top with milk will help a lot and I believe real butter is better than healthy spreads, but that is a long ongoing debates on this subject. Different things work for different things and it's all a huge experiment until he finds what spike bs and what's ok for him. And you will also get a lot of different opinions on here and no one is right and no one is wrong either

Type 2 diagnosed 24/01/2013.
Novomix 30, Victoza, metformin 2000mg sr (but not taking them as they play havoc with my insides,

well had a hell of a day but finally somethin good has come out of it went to the docs wiv my oh and hes finally been put on the sick but there puttin him on insulin as his tablets are not workin but at least being on esa will mean that he can just concentrate on his diet and looking after himself as hes been.in a bad way, plus doin the new diet for him has made me change the way i look at food too so its all good :cool::cool:

Well done for you two! This whole thing is hard to deal with but it seems like you can pull together and one good thing seems to be that he is listening to you. A lot of the time the ones we care about don't listen too well and have to come to the hard decisions themselves.

I would suggest you read all there is to read on here on the various ways that a diabetic can eat and not have bad results. There a truckload of info for anyone who wants to know.

Good Luck to you both :)
