With your diet changes you may find no need to increase your metformin.. I couldn't tolerate them anyway so mine went into the bin after three weeks of being tied to the loo!
And being the wicked independent soul I am I didn't ask permission first!
Are you measuring your blood sugars? That's a big help whatever the Health Pro's say.
Oh its almost certainly the metformin..some people reckon it goes away after a month or so .. others that the slow release version (usually has SR in the name) is better although for me it made things worse.. Constant diarrhea?Yes testing my blood sugars. I’d say religiously but tbh I’m still trying to get into the routine and start to build a pattern of data I can rely on.
Have ditched as many carbs as I can; though am still learning here. As I’m already on levothyroxine, I’d like to be able to self manage as much as possible. Too soon yet to tell if it’s going LCHF or the tablet that’s upsetting my tum.
Keep the advice coming though - the benefit of your wisdom is much appreciated
LCHF doesn't usually cause the runs, so if that's the problem, it's most likely the metformin. I lived in the loo for as long as I was on it, was nausious too and all-round miserable. If it doesn't improve after a week or two, request the slow release kind. (Or discuss going diet-only, if test results are good).Yes testing my blood sugars. Milk has not been a major problem for me. Keep off the carbs. Even many veggies and most fruit have high high carb or sugar content so be careful. I also find the 'plate' method very misleading because of the carb content of veggies and a quarter plate of high carb is too high..Just want to say a big thanks to all who relpied, lots of reading to do.
We're seeing if the doctor will put a prescription in for a glucose test meter
(We're unemployed, so on low income and if we're going to be testing a few times a day until we figure the diet out, it'll start to add up!)
But apparantly as she's type 2 it is down to the doctor's discretion whether they'll put it on prescripton or tell us to buy our own.
Lots of things to read, already chucked out the sugar and got unsweetened almond milk for the tea and coffee.
Going to have a go at making some keto bread.
Cheese and mushroom omlette for tea (no milk)
Time to get dug into some research!
We haven't got the meter on prescription , we went ahead and bought one and my other half's grandfather (who is arguably the worst diabetic ever) went and got her another one on his prescription....as he is type 1 insulin dependant but doesn't bother to test his blood...ever.
Anyway, now we have one in the car and one in the house.
We are hoping that the doctors will give us a prescription for the testing strips at least.
Thanks. It’s so good to know all of this & understand everyone else’s experiences. I’ve got my next appointment with the DN tomorrow and feel much better armed to have an informed conversation.
You guys are the best
Good luck, and hope it’s all good news
Thank you. What will be interesting is her take on LCHF. It seems to be making an immediate difference for me, but given the distance between the standard healthy eating lines and people’s experiences on the forum, she may not agree with how I’m approaching the problem
