Hi - new on here

My partner took his blood sugars at home a couple of days ago and they were elevated so went to the Doctor for blood tests. Summary of results below
Coded entry Serum fasting glucose level 20.5 mmol/L
Coded entry Serum triglyceride levels 108 mmol/L [0.8 - 2.3]
Coded entry Serum cholesterol level 25.1 mmol/L [< 5.2]

They've sent him to hospital and he's been admitted (presumably for an insulin drip?) but they haven't really told us anything other than that. Does this look like diabetes, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels look rather alarming.

He's in the right place and hopefully the docs will be able to get the right treatments for him.
Wish you well and look after yourself in the time ahead.

Yes, he is in the right place. They will do more tests.

If he is diagnosed as a Type 2, that may be a reason why his cholesterol and triglycerides are so high. They frequently go hand in hand.

Thank you all for your kind - and reassuring - words. He hasn't formally been diagnosed yet as this has all come out of the blue but has the risk factors - 60, high BMI, rubbish diet

Many of us on here look at our Type 2 diagnosis as the kick up the bum we needed to get back on track with a healthy diet and more exercise. It works wonders!

If you want to know what’s going on get your partner to ask the staff what’s happening. Confidentiality will prevent the nurses talking to you about his diagnosis or treatment over the phone. Or maybe you could visit and with your partner’s consent you can be there when the Drs do their rounds or you could both ask the nurses.

The numbers do indicate something's up. You might want to prepare yourself by doing some research into T2? I know it helped me tremendously that my partner took an interest and supported me when diagnosed. Good places to start are Dr. Jason Fung's book, The Diabetes Code, and dietdoctor.com . Right at the start, when things are still in limbo, it's hard to just wait and see what's next, and I've found that doing research gives you some sense of control, and it helps you to know what to ask, and especially, how to interpret the answers given. Plus, it makes the whole endeavour less scary. Doing it together is a great comfort.

I hope your other half feels better soon. Know you're both more than welcome here with any questions!
Jo
