I have just been reading Patrick Holford's "Say No to Diabetes" which I have found very enlightening. I have also used his Low GL Diet prior to my pre-diabetes a few years ago. A lot of what he says makes a great deal of sense and I am interested to know if anyone else has used his diet/supplements plan and with what results?

I've recently read this book and also find it an interesting read. We enjoy some of the recipes too. I bought some of the supplements to slow down carb processing but haven't been taking them yet...... so I can't say if they're effective. I doubt I would know if they were working anyway.

His GL book was the first one I read when I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago. I can't believe back then I had never heard of GI, GL and I could not have told you what Starchy Carbs were. Seems a lifetime ago, but makes me think, "is most of the population as ignorant as I was"

I bought his GI diet books because my GP recommended them several years ago. I had already cut out a lot of things that made me put on weight so I didn't find this diet helpful at all. I was re-introducing carbs by following his plan, not cutting them so consequently I put on 8 pounds in 2 weeks.

I agree Zand. Although my first book and a quick introduction to the journey I am now on, the subsequent material, such as The Diabetes Summit 2016 and Diet Doctor and numerous books, particularly the Science Of Low Carb Living, Phinney, et al

I have bought a lot of books - at least a dozen - on diabetes and I found that his was the "best". Not too difficult to understand but comprehensive.

I tried his low GL diet a few years back.
Absolute disaster.
Gained weight and raised my bgs.
At the time, I wasn't testing regularly, so didn't have a full picture.

Took AGES to shave that weight off again, and had to go very low carb to do it.

I am sure it works for some people, just not me.
- maybe it is brilliant as a 'preventative' for pre-diabetics?

The problem I discovered thankfully sooner than later as I read more widely was the amount and encouragement to eat lots of low GI/GL fruit. Boy that would be a disaster for me.

Just as a matter of interest -- how many people have found that their dietician or diabetes nurse has even HEARD of GL? I have yet to meet one who has (I am usually gently corrected - 'You mean 'GI').

We are all different people so different ways works for us personally and the only way you will know if it will work for you is to try it.
