PCT meter options

Just wondering how many of you have PCTs who will only supply meters and strips from one maker to save money
I ask because it is about to happen to me so if its already in action where you live can you tell me what meter is given and are you allowed to reject it? :?: :?:
 
I don't know what my pct officially hand out I have a accu check aviva nano given to me. I know from talking to my pharmacist that accu check have a contract with the Nhs therefore many people get this brand.

I got an Accu Chek Aviva from my GP, so you could be right.
 
My PCT only supply caresens N meters and strips across the board,no thrills but seem consistent.
 
we were all given the Abbott's optimum i have had good service with this.I do not know if this is still happerning,as that was 9yrs ago.

Strange you should say that, my battery died after just one week.
 
Don't know about the PCT, but my practice only gives out Freestyle Freedom Lite. I had a Bayer Contour before that, but they won't prescribe strips for it. My practice dispenses 'cos we're so far from a pharmacy - makes sense to stick to one make, they may well get bulk-buy discounts.

I'm happy with the Freestyle.

Hi,

There is no resriction of meters in Richmond, London. I use the glucomenlx+ as it measures glucose and ketones which is really important for any type 1 person with diabetes.

I wouldn't want to be told which meter to use and it is clearly a cost saving exercise.

Surely PCT's should look at long term savings and better education?
