Dear type 1 community.

I've had weird BG oscillations since the beginning of this year. I even switched from Lantus to Tresiba as my body stopped responding to Lantus but, after a few months, I realized that my BG shoots up (oscillates btw 10-16mql/ml) exactly 10 days before my period (and in this period my body also started skipping periods but, again, 10 days before I am supposed to get my period my sugar would shoot up too). I am 44 and in addition to diabetes, I have endometriosis. I've had 2 keyhole surgeries where together with the cyst a part of my ovary (and therefore egg reserves) was removed. This summer my gyno confirmed that I am in perimenopause. Is there anyone out there who had a problem regulating their BG due to perimenopause? My routine is the same, I watch what I eat and I do half an hour of yoga in the morning but my BG is still high during this period, what is your advice?

Hello @nevenaves I am also perimenopausal and have skipped a period this year, with hot flushes at night, most nights can't have a cover on, my levels are erratic in the lead up to a period but they always have been, sadly there's no easy fix, it's literally keep an eye on levels, also a diary too so you can track times of the month and changes, there's little point adjusting tresiba as it's a 36 hour profile, but just adjust with correction doses, I personally try and avoid carbs too as I don't want to exacerbate the issue and also use exercise as a way to lower higher levels, this generally helps, I have asked a doctor in the past who suggested a full hysterectomy which wasn't something I was prepared to go for but am going to see if I can try HRT to help with the hormone surges that cause this.

You've both got my total sympathy, as I found it really hard to regulate my blood sugar during peri menopause, and menopause itself. I just had to test more, and give correction doses, being on a pump helped a lot with that. If you haven't got a Libre or Dexcom that may also be helpful.
