Just had a real shock this morning - I was notified about an old friend - he was the lead guitarist of the band I used to be in back a few years ago and when we would tour he would take great care to make sure I was eating properly and managing my diabetes. At times it was annoying but a good person to have touring with you when dealing with a hectic schedule with odd hours. This guy was healthy - had a very fitness aware frame of mind and was also a **** good guitarist.
Anyway, I found out this morning that he's in a palliative care unit stricken down with cancer and doesn't have long to live. It's quite shocking - out of all of my past band members - me and our drummer - also a Type 1 - appear to be the healthiest of the bunch. Life is full of ironies .... doesn't make me feel any better though - it's important to live life to the fullest!
