Hi everyone,

I've created a petition calling for improved access to testing strips for type 2's, I've only got a handful of signatures so far and am hoping that by posting a link here I can get a few more. It's an issue that's very important to me and I imagine it must be important to most of you, so please could you take a minute to read and sign it.

Thank you, Zoe :D

Hi Ruby,
I really hope you have success with your petition.
I know most people on here think the same as you but unfortunately it's really hard to get a lot of signatories.

There have been several petitions on this subject before. I can recall at least 5 others and there is one other active on the government website at the moment.
This forum organised one last year which achieved 5,353 signatories.

I haven't seen any government response to this one . (it seems that you used to get one with 500 signatures, but I couldn't find anything about this on the website now.)

Previous to this there was another one organised by a former member. This received a government response, link below. As you can see they pass the buck to the PCTs

However, if people give up because of past experience then it would be easy to point to the fact that not many people cared enough to sign so good luck.

Type 1's can also have their strips restricted and therefore impacting on their health too.

E petitions require 100,000 signatures to even be "considered" for debate. And for that reason and without I hope sounding apathetic about this serious problem I wont be signing any more petitions as I truly believe them to be a waste of time.

If you collect 100,000 signatures, your e-petition could be debated in the House of Commons
Source = http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/how-it-works

A few statistics for e-petitions, in the 12 months to August 2012 the GDS that is headed up by Peter Herlihy recorded:

◾36,000 e-petitions submitted
◾47% were rejected
◾1,600 valid e-petitions were 'opened'
◾17 million unique site visits
◾38% of visitors signed an e-petition
◾6,400,000 signatures were collected
◾10 e-petitions attained the required 100,000 signatures

So 6.5 million signatures and 36,000 e petitions only 10 have been debated, how many were successful I wonder?
