PoTS or Orthostatic hypotension / hypertension ??

Hi everyone , I havnt been on here for a long time now . As some of you will remember, my mental health hasn’t been great . I took quite a few insulin overdoses and a couple of months ago now , got my hands on some medication online that’s used to treat hypertension . ( I don’t have hypertension , I just felt obsessed, researching what the most harmful medication to overdose on was .)

I took some and nearly died . ( I spent the week in hospital ,) I also again , a month later, took some of ( a smaller amount) the same medication , only spent the one night in hospital then .

I am really worried . And guilty .

I have noticed that whenever I get out of bed or even just stand up .. I feel lightheaded , it’s very brief but seems to happen all the time .

I have been reading how prolonged bed rest can cause it, an infection ( I developed aspiration pneumonia the first time after taking those tablets .)

I actually had my blood pressure checked about a week and a half ago . But the ‘result’ ( which I really don’t believe ) was 135/ something on both times ( lying then standing ) also the cuff fell off twice , too loose surely ?!
I know something is not right .. help ??

I have home tested , and these are the results ,.. how come it’s showing as an increase rather than a decrease ( after searching online , it seems feeling lightheaded after standing could only be to a drop in BP??

These are some results I had ( in the evening )

Thank you ,

Sorry if the story is distressing

Hi @Grumpy Porridge , I'm sorry your mental health is in such a bad way.

Are you getting any mental health help from your medical team? To be honest, this doesn't sound like a diabetic issue though I'm sure your diabetes doesn't help your state of mind.

The obvious places to ring are the Samaritans and similar

Helplines and listening services | Mind, the mental health charity - help for mental health problems

As for the blood pressure readings, we're not allowed to diagnose on these forums and it's really out of our areas of expertise anyway. I think that's something to potentially take to your GP. Google isn't the best diagnostic tool, light headedness can be caused by all sorts of things, many of which are benign (eg ear issues???).

Can you please please please throw away any additional stocks of the bp medication you abused. (Assuming it's not been medically prescribed to you).

I hope you can get the help you need. Good luck and virtual hugs.

I'm sorry to read that you became so stressed to resort to desperate measures. I think if you stop taking too much insulin or even (in my opinion, not medical) antihypertensives. Too much insulin can give you a shock and antihypertensives, from my personal experience are very dangerous and made me so sick, I too had to go to ER. Some of these just are not right for some people. I hope you will stabilize by stopping these measures and go to a walk-in clininc to get help.

I sympathize, but you are not the only one.

Take care.

You need to contact someone immediately and get some help. Attempts at suicide are a cry for help, so get that help before you purposely succeed or you accidentally succeed. Please do so right away and be honest with them. It can get better.

@Grumpy Porridge, what a horrid time you are having! My heart goes out to you. I agree with everyone else who has commented, please do be kind to yourself and seek help anywhere you can think of, including ringing 111. No need to limit yourself to just one resource.
As regards feeling light headed when you stand, I too have this symptom, I believe it is very common, especially as we age. Do seek proper medical advice, but meanwhile don't worry too much about it. Just take you time standing up, especially from lying.
Good luck.

I hope you can get the help you need. As for the dizziness, I have reflex syncope and my test result was a fall in BP to 75/57 after 10 mins standing.

Hi Grumpy Porridge,

How are you doing today?

Sorry you are going through this. Please seek help, your gp can refer you to the mental health team.
