Hi all. I am new to this and just so confused. I will give you some history first.
I am pregnant with baby number 3 and have suspected GD. I didn't have it with my first but did with my 2nd but he passed away when I was nearly 26 weeks pregnant (not diabetes related) so I never got to see anyone about it. I have high BMI, family history of T1 and T2 so they have said I have a very high chance of having it again this time (being tested next week)

Here is my problem- I only started monitoring my BS today, I stuffed out on lunch, everything I shouldn't have (one last binge) and my sugars were 8.4 (I know too high) so I had a really healthy tea and my sugars are now 8.7....what am I doing wrong? I am trying so hard and getting no where.

Any advice is really appreciated

Hi torch

Though non of us are doctors and can't diagnose or anythign it might help if you can you tell us what you ate for your healthy tea? and how long after you ate you tested?

Hi, thank you for replying.

I had 4 small new potatoes, a chicken breast and salad and a yogurt for afters. I tested 1 hour after and they were 8.7 but just tested 2 hours after and they are now 7.1 so even more confused :?

Hi Torch, and welcome.

The potatoes will have sent your BGs up and so caused the one hour reading, but you were coming down again quite well by the 2 hours test, so I honestly wouldn't worry too much.

I don't know much about gestational diabetes. I'm Type 2, and I need to be between 4 and 7 before meals and less than 8.5 two hours after (National Institute for Clinical Health guidelines for Type 2). I don't know what the GD guidelines are.

Try not to worry, don't eat too many carbohydrates, and wait for your test. Your HCP seem to be on the ball and aware of the possibility of GD, so they should look after you properly.

Let us know how you go on!

Hi

Yogurts can contian a lot of sugar too, depending on variety. Some yogurts have huge anmounts of sugar.

Muller light are quite low sugar - and some people use greek style and add fruit to it. Onken do a low fat vanilla that is also quite low sugar, it come in 500gm pots and my problem is limiting myself to how much of it I eat..............

I was hoping someone with GD would come along who could comment better on the results. When are you likely to get the results of the tests?

Thanks guys, I am currently testing 1.5 hours after food as no one seems to be able to tell me when I need to do it lol woke up this morning with a 4.9 and after breakfast it was 7.4 and just waiting to test now after lunch

For someone with GD the guidelines are flexible and should be discussed with your Diabetic Team as they may be different to normal T1 and T2 levels.

They should be agreed with the prospective Mom in the early stages of Pregnancy.......
